hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 4, 2025 Posted July 4, 2025 I searched and came across a power shell script to copy a rating for TV shows, but I don't have a Windows machine and I would think this feature should be simpler anyway. As is, it seems that setting an Album to a parental rating only allows my child account to see the album but none of the songs. There is no option to edit metadata for multiple items at once, so it's very time consuming to approve content. If Songs do not have a rating, could they inherit the rating from the Album they belong to? That still allows individual songs to have a different rating, but overall allowing an Album for a child account would be much less time consuming.
Luke 42078 Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Hi, it should just inherit. Can you please provide a specific example? Thanks.
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 6, 2025 Author Posted July 6, 2025 It's not working on my end. Here's an album I just marked PG but didn't touch any songs. They have blank parent and custom ratings.

hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 8, 2025 Author Posted July 8, 2025 Yes, the first screenshot is from my parent account and the second is from the child account. The album is visible but none of the songs are. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
ebr 16178 Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 So it is actually working for the songs (they are inheriting properly) but not for the album itself...
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 8, 2025 Author Posted July 8, 2025 (edited) I don't think so? The album is visible in the childs account, and it shows up as PG, which is within the content ratings of that account. But the songs are unrated, so when you click on the album it's just an empty album. The songs are also not searchable, nor visible on the Songs tab. If I go through and mark each song PG as well, it works. But it takes a long time to mark individual songs. They're also named above in case they are showing up incorrectly. Parent.png is the parent account with full access. Child.png is the childs account that I'm referring to, the songs are not inheriting the parental rating from the album. Do you have the "Hide unrated content" option checked? If you uncheck it do they show? If so, it does sound like they are not inheriting properly.
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 11, 2025 Author Posted July 11, 2025 (edited) Ah ha, yes unrated content is hidden. But if I allow unrated content, EVERYTHING shows instead of just what I'm trying to allow. Now I'm in the opposite boat of having to go and rate every single piece of content that I don't want the account to see. Is there a way to keep unrated content hidden, but if an album is rated, the unrated songs inherit that rating and still show up, while still hiding other unrated content? Is that too complicated? If they are inheriting the album rating, they should not be considered unrated anymore. Edited July 11, 2025 by hukt_own_fonikz
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 22, 2025 Author Posted July 22, 2025 Just checking back in, so is this a bug or a feature request? If the songs are inheriting the rating from the album, they should no longer be considered unrated.
Luke 42078 Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 I would try refreshing the metadata on an individual song and see if it helps for that song. If not, then I would say that this should be improved as part of the upcoming 4.9 server release. Thanks. 1
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted July 25, 2025 Author Posted July 25, 2025 Okay, yes. With the album set to PG, the album shows up but not the songs. But then yes, when I refresh metadata on each song, they do start to show up. Is there a way to refresh all of the songs in an album at once?
hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted August 2, 2025 Author Posted August 2, 2025 Any way to refresh metadata for multiple items? This works if there's a way to do them in bulk.

Solution hukt_own_fonikz 10 Posted August 3, 2025 Author Solution Posted August 3, 2025 Ah ha, this is not in the app but in the web client, you can select individually and refresh metadata from the top menu. Sorry I primarily use the app, I can't get surround sound via the web client. Thanks for your help through this. 1
HanSolo 21 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 Just want to point out that there are also security controls at the artist level (one level up from album). HS 1
