Special Characters in Subtitles -- Android TV versus Android Client

Server is on a Win10 box.

I have both clients on an Nvidia Shield Pro, Android TV and Android version. Always run the latest available from Play Store.

Have been using the Android TV version all along, until the last couple of weeks I've been tinkering with the Android version. The issue I have is simple... most subtitles downloaded from opensubtitles.com or Addic7ed work fine on Android TV client, yet the same file has an issue with special characters on the Android Emby client. By that I mean "musical note" special character does not display properly. See attached pic.

 

Is this something I can fix myself in the server or client settings?

Search and KB here turned up nothing.

The music note characters in the android app for subtitles have not worked for quite some time, I think they may have worked at one point but I can't recall. Might have broken after a font change.

It always works for me in the Android TV app. Never works in the Android app, very annoying.

Any progress on changing the font for subtitles so it works like the Android TV app?

I misstated that post above... It works on the Android TV app on Android TV platform, it's broken on the Android app on the Android TV platform.

Also, I meant to say server version, not client version, I had not had any coffee yet that day.

Hi, it's on our to do list for review. It's a more complicated issue than what it seems like. Thanks.

Well, hell, if this can't be fixed, I'll revert to the Android TV version. Seemed to be mostly OK there. 

"to do list for review" doesn't sound encouraging, and even less so 4 months later.

With 3.5.33 note blocks are still just a box.

I just saw that 3.5.34 is available and the music notes are working!

I can't try it yet, still on earlier version on a 2109 Shield Pro. Waiting for it to appear in that device's Play Store.

I got tired of waiting for the Play Store process, whatever that is, and grabbed the latest from the website.

3.5.34 Looks good!
