FrankyX 3 Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 There is a somewhat popular british band called "The The" which I own 3 CDs of that I ripped and put into my music library. The Metadata in the files looks like this: When I re-scan my library I end up with this: One time correctly "The The" - the other time its "The, The" because the first "the" is taken for an article and prepended. Two of the CDs are sorted to "The The" and one CD is sorted to "The, The" which of course is *really* inconvenient. I already double checked the Meta-Tags, removed the whole folder, did a rescan, removed the artist folder in "/var/lib/emby/metadata/musicartists" put the folder back and scanned again. I always end up with this two artist entries. When I edit the Metadata in Emby I can make it display correctly as "The The" but I still have two entries for the same artist. What can I do to sort the CD correctly and have them both listed under the same artist entry? I am running Emby Premiere Version 4.8.11.0 under Linux (Proxmox) if that matters. The files are on a network NFS share. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Kind regards Frank
Solution user24 313 Posted June 26, 2025 Solution Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) Hi, what dedicated music tagging program are you using to check your embedded metadata tags and what does this show for all tags? If "AlbumArtist" tag is "The The" but you also have a "Album Artist" tag of "The, The" then Emby may be prioritizing the unwanted "The, The" tag? In Windows this is easy to check "Extended Tags" with Mp3tag, but you may need to use something equivalent (e.g. Puddletag) or MusicBrainz Picard for Linux. P.S. You might also want to check "Artist" vs "Artists" tags (if you haven't done so already) to see if there are any discrepancies. Edited June 26, 2025 by user24 added P.S. section

Hey user24, thank you bunches! The doublication of "AlbumArtist" and "Album Artist" indeed was the problem. By default mp3Tag only shows "AlbumArtist" and "Album Artist" is hidden so i never used or checked it. With alt-t I was able to locate and remove the "The, The" entries in "Album Artist". Problem solved! ...now I only need to find out how the tag got there at all. Probably some autotagger that went crazy Anyway: my library is pretty now and the issue was probably not caused by Emby! 1
