GhunterX 0 Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Hi all, Wondering if you can assist please? Last night I setup an instance of Emby, currently using Jellyfin. In my library on Jellyfin, I've Collections enabled and it's inside my Movies Library, so when I enter movies, all the correct film series are grouped together, Star Trek, Back to the future, etc. For the life of me, I cannot get Collections to work. Under the libraries, I've set (Import collection information from metadata downloaders) to enabled, but nothing is grouping. I've gone into the library, used the three dots and ticked to group collections, but nothing happens and the option is unticked. Am I missing something? Cheers all for your help.
Luke 42078 Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
GhunterX 0 Posted June 2, 2025 Author Posted June 2, 2025 (edited) Hi, Under Movies Library, every movie is on it's own. So I would have Halloween 1, 2, 3, 4, etc all on their own. Whereas in Jellyfin, they would be in the Halloween Collection grouped together. First, shows the items aren't grouped. Second, shows the option up the top under the three dots. No mater how many items I turn this on, it turns off. Third, shows the option is enabled in Movies collection as it's set in others, but still won't group them together. The bottom picture shows the Jellyfin collection. embyserver.txt Edited June 2, 2025 by GhunterX

Lessaj 467 Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 What is your sort order? The options "Date played" and "Plays" don't support the group items into collections option but it should work for the rest. Also are the items currently part of any collections? The group items toggle does seem to be a little buggy though, if you turn it on (and it works) and then close the panel and reopen it, it will still show as disabled. Have to toggle it on and back off to get it back to normal. Here it's off: Now I enable it: Now I close this panel and open it again:

But no matter what I do, won't group them.
visproduction 315 Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Ghunt, There is a sort order field in each movies metadata editor. You can just update that field with Halloween 1, Halloween 2, Haloween 3. etc. If you then sort by title, the Halloween films will group together. If you sort any other way, then that sort option will override the sort order. Collections are on the collection page. You are looking at the wrong page. The library page just shows everything in the library. Luke already mentioned that above. Hope that helps.

Will check the list using the metadata editor, it's just I didn't need to do any of this on Jellyfin, so wouldn't think it was needed. Will check it though. Just on the collections, I can't see any post from Luke where he mentions this? Hate to beat the same drum, but didn't need to do that either in Jellyfin. It created the collections and showed them in the library with other movies. Thanks
visproduction 315 Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Ghunt, Ok, but if you put the dashboards of Toyoto, Ford, Chevy, Mercedes and BMW in the same car, it would rather tricky to drive, don't you think?

I'm honestly not sure where this is going? I'm only asking to find out why I can't put movies into collections, so instead of 50 separate movies of laurel and hardy in my library, I have one collection of them all. I think I'm gonna stick with Jellyfin. Thanks all for your hard work.
visproduction 315 Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 (edited) Ghunt, OK. Hopefully you got the method for Emby. You add the first movie to a new collection, naming it Laurel and Hardy. Then add each Laurel and Hardy movie to the same collection. (3 dot / Add to Collection) When you open the collections page from your My Media Menu, all the Laurel and Hardy movies will appear in the collection page that you get to by clicking the poster that says Laurel and Hardy. You can add your own custom poster image. If you have collection page sorted by title, then the collection poster will be in the L's. If you want it anywhere else, change the collection 3 dots button / Edit Metadata / 'Sort by' field. I use a custom theme to style my pages: Edited June 8, 2025 by visproduction
