Dariusz 25 Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 I just saw an update to EMBY in TrueNas Community Edition 25.04, and after the update i see EMBY is at 4.9.1.0 Beta Do beta updates get pushed now instead of Stable ones on TrueNas? I was on stable 4.8.11.0 before this.. 1
Luke 42077 Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 Hi, we don't manage that ourselves, so whoever handles that community package must have done that. It could have been intentional or a mistake based on the version number.
Luke 42077 Posted May 27, 2025 Posted May 27, 2025 If this is Scale, then looking through our notes, this did happen once before, and we contacted them and they downgraded to the stable package. However for those who have already gotten this update, we do not have a safe downgrade to stable. Once we have a 4.9.X stable release for everyone, then at that point we can contact them and ask them to switch it back. They might even end up doing it on their own.

Yes it is TrueNas Scale, but since the latest version they released a month ago or so, it is now called Community Edition as Scale and Core were merged together.. I prefer to stay on stable so it is a bit of a bummer.. but yes, i think a lot of people will end up in this situation once they update.. I already seen some people asking about this on reddit.. looks like mistake on their end then from what you are saying.. 1

Luke 42077 Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 OK it’s fine. We had to submit 4.9 stable to asustor altar to resolve a compatibility problem so hopefully it won’t be too long until we release for everyone. 1

Sounds good.. so i assume once they have the proper stable package, it should upgrade the current Beta to the stable, correct?

SimonS75 3 Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 I updated to this version today also without noticing it's a beta release. Has this also caused the "unwatched only" (download, convert) option to disappear? I don't seem to have the checkbox anymore since this morning.
neves000 15 Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 Hi, It's pretty bad for me, because I'm in the process of migrating from a Synology NAS with Emby 4.8.11.0 to a TrueNAS Scale with Emby 4.9.1.0 beta. In my first test, there seem to have been changes in the metadata storage: metadata/collections/xyz - saga/ is now metadata/collections/xyz - saga-tmdb-12345/. So half my images are no longer good (but some still work, strange). Are there any other changes? Is it a good idea to migrate my old Synology NAS to 4.9.1.0 beta, make a backup, and restore that backup to my new TrueNAS NAS? Or wait for both NASes to upgrade to stable 4.9? If so, can you give me an estimated release date? To find out whether I should wait a week or 6 months. Thx!

Jerren 17 Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 What should we do when we run into this situation btw? Just keep updating with each beta update it pushes to truenas scale or don't update and wait for the stable release? Will we be able to update to the stable release? And lastly how will we know that there's a stable release to update too? I'm asking because i've noticed that i'm on Version 4.9.1.32 beta since a bit and in the dashboard it says Emby Server 4.9.2.2 is Available for Emby which i assume will also be a beta?

Jerren 17 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 I'm not sure, when selecting upgrade i don't see that number. Figured a screenshot would be best. That version is the only option i have. The reason i asked besides being curious how it will move forward is that i've at times noticed odd behaviour like a movie or show not playing smoothly but stuttering untill i reboot the app. But it won't do it consistently. Only consistent error i've got in this beta is a CD that used to play fine but since i'm on the beta says playback error - no compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details. I assume this is because of the beta version hence why i didn't make a topic for it, nor do i think it warrants any attention right now, just wanted to clarify why i'm not a fan of suddenly being on a beta version when it's not intended.
Jerren 17 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 As far as i can tell that's the Version, where it get's that number? Or why's it different then App Version? I have no clue. As the link at the hub.docker.com page shows the 4.9 numberings and not at the 1.3 numberings.
Luke 42077 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 OK thanks for the info. I think that's something that the truenas plugin maintainer will have to answer.
dgrigo 35 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 I had an idea, and I am trying if it work now at least until we have a fix. I try to ignore the update until i will see inside emby congig, the message that there is an update available, and the message restart to update. then i am checking until the version number of maintainer change , it takes 1 or 2 days till bot makes the build from the time we see the message inside emby config or docker hub. then I will try to update, its cumbersome so I hope that he will find the info he needs. BTW https://github.com/truenas/apps/pull/2820 hit stavros-k who is the maintainer He said that The issue is with 4.9.x.x not adhering to none of the rules 3rd digit != 0 == stable 4rd digit == 0 == stable 4.9.1.0 according to the above rules, it should be stable, yet its not. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/tag/4.9.1.0 So, it doesn't really fix it. We need Emby official response on how we can distinguish stable from beta. Either a versioning scheme or a suffix/prefix (ie -stable) Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 the release names on github releases end in -beta for betas. Additionally beta releases are also marked with the prerelease flag. So if you're using the github api, either of those two could be checked. Quote The issue is with 4.9.x.x not adhering to none of the rules 3rd digit != 0 == stable 4rd digit == 0 == stable We had never said it would be this way. In fact when someone mentioned that this is how they are determining it, that was the first I heard of it.
dgrigo 35 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 If anyone wants to help to speedup solution you can add yourself to this https://forums.truenas.com/t/emby-stable-train-is-back-in-beta/55522/10 Thanks
Jerren 17 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Thank you for your work on getting it to the maintainer's attention dgrigo! Let's hope he notices and see the post sooner rather then later! Untill then i'll wait with updating i guess.

It seems that the maintainer from Truenas can only tell beta or not from the version number, through regular expression. The rule for that was x.x.x.0 means stable, however it doesn't work anymore after 4.9, as the latest stable is 4.9.1.80. Beside of asking them to update their fetching method, is there any new rule for stable version number? Or will you consider following the previous rule, like using 4.9.2.0 instead of 4.9.1.80. I know this sounds stupid but that's how they work unfortunately.
richt 94 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Having read several of the threads on this issue and noting that Luke has already provided the general framework, it seems to me the best course of action is for the maintainer of the FreeNAS Emby App to get on this forum and PM Luke. Playing man in the middle on this is inefficient and must be frustrating. 1
dgrigo 35 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Yes it is frustrating... Hope Luke can jump in to solve it !!
