dbone1026 2 Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 Hi Everyone - at a bit of a crossroad here. I have had Emby on my Synology server for many many years, no issues accessing Emby remotely (port forwarding set up on my Eero router, no issues). Recently I switched routers to an Asus router, enabled port forwarding on that router with the new Emby IP Address, remote access worked as expected. However, I ended up having a ton of wi fi connectivity issues with the Asus router, so I switched back to the old Eero router. Since I did this, I can no longer access Emby remotely. The Emby dashboard does show the correct / updated IP address (LAN and WAN) and the Eero does have the port forwarding set up correctly (8096 and 8920), so everything matches. I thought maybe something happened that the Eero router stopped accepting remote connections. To test this out, I installed Plex on my Synology, set up port forwarding for the appropriate port, and have no issues accessing Plex remotely. I even deleted the port forwarding rules and set up again. I have restarted the emby server and still no luck. Any idea? I dont know if the next step would be to uninstall the Emby server completely from Synology and install again?
Luke 42078 Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 Hi, what exactly happens when you try to connect? Quote To test this out, I installed Plex on my Synology, set up port forwarding for the appropriate port, and have no issues accessing Plex remotely. I even deleted the port forwarding rules and set up again. This is not really an equivalent test because they have a relay service that kicks in automatically where everything gets routed through their servers when a direct connection isn't possible.
dbone1026 2 Posted May 19, 2025 Author Posted May 19, 2025 Using my phone (not on my network) to access Emby via the Android App. It tries loading for a minute then it just goes to the Select Server screen. I can see it has my server listed correctly. If I click on that, I get a message about being Unable to Reach my Server. "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again". If I try to sign in to Emby connect, it just takes me back to the Select Server screen. Thanks for the heads up on the difference with Plex. Since it is not equivalent, then it sounds like it is something on the network/eero side, although not sure what. I can keep digging around to see if something else changed with the reinstallation. My parents are getting antsy about losing access to Emby lol.
Luke 42078 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Try doing a manual connection by adding a new server and manually entering the address into the app.

I am going to see if I set something else up on my network and test out remote access. If I can't access, then it tells me something is up on the router side which I will have to sort out. My router is connected to my cable modem which I had to have the cable modem set up in bridge mode. I am wondering if someone that bridge mode got reset which is why now I cant access outside my network. EDIT - yup, that is what it was. The bridge mode on my cable modem got disabled, so I had to go into the modem setting and set up port forwarding there as well. My folks will be happy Edited May 23, 2025 by dbone1026 1

You'll be behind 2 routers. Can make alot of trouble for you. Why not have the bridgeing enabled again, or bypass the last router. Edited May 26, 2025 by Thidsa typo
