Roma1234 3 Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 I'm experiencing a playback issue when watching movies through the Emby app on my LG TV. Until recently, everything was working fine, but now when I start a movie, playback is delayed, and once it begins, it stutters every few seconds. During these pauses, the playback progress shown on the Emby Server web interface for the LG device continues as if the movie is playing normally. Then, when the movie resumes on the TV, the progress shown in the web interface suddenly jumps backwards by a few seconds to match the TV again. This issue is only happening on my LG TV. Playback works perfectly via the web browser or on my iPhone, so it appears to be specific to the LG app. Has anyone experienced similar behavior recently or have suggestions on how to fix it?
Luke 42077 Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks! 1
Roma1234 3 Posted May 19, 2025 Author Posted May 19, 2025 Hello, here is the server log. embyserver.txt
marriedman 85 Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Out of curiosity - do you have your TV connected to the network via wireless connection? Or do you have a wireless subwoofer near the TV? I had a LG TV that was nothing but trouble until I wired the network connection and removed the wireless credentials. 1

Yes, it is connected via Wi-Fi but has a very good connection. The media I play via emby are all in 1080p and only 3-10GB in size. I can easily stream 4k and 8k content with the TV via other platforms, or much bigger files over DLNA sources.

I said the exact same thing. I have a Netgear Orbi R850, at the time it was called the "fastest router on the market", blah blah blah, marketing speak. And for the most part it has lived up to the advertised speeds. However it is the most persnickety POS router that I have ever had. I hate it so much I actually crawled in attic fiberglass insulation and inside walls so that I could run cable. That literally solved all of my problems. The wifi is now only used for laptops, cellphones, and IoT crap. If it isn't too much trouble, just to say you have tried everything, try an ethernet connection AND removing wifi credentials on your LG TV. 1

This is worth testing this. I've noticed the LG TV is quite fussy about WiFi channels, and if a neighbor has recently added a new WiFi device it might now be interfering with your connection. 2

While I can't use a cable, I think it pointed me in the right direction. I have a modern router that supports up to Wi-Fi 7, but there's also an older repeater in the house that only supports Wi-Fi 4. The LG TV supports Wi-Fi 5, and the issue only occurs when the TV connects to the repeater, thus using Wi-Fi 4. If I unplug the repeater, the TV connects directly to the router via Wi-Fi 5, and the problem seems to disappear. It’s still strange, though, because I can stream much larger, higher-resolution content from other apps (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) through the repeater and Wi-Fi 4 without any issues. It seems like there’s some sort of conflict between the Ebmy app and the Wi-Fi standard. 1 1

With regards to Netflix, YouTube, they heavily optimise their media streams to support streaming, including file format, codec, delivery method, resolution and encoding. Emby is playing your media, your way, and isn't trying to do this optimization so it will be more sensitive to network issues. 4

Dregre 0 Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 I'm also experiencing this issue, expect it is on an older WiFi 4 only network. The playback works fine on other devices, but on the LG TV it has recently started stuttering every few minutes. I have made sure the bands have different names and connection through both the WiFi 5 5Ghz and WiFi 4 2.4Ghz band, both which show the same stuttering issues, with the same symptoms mentioned by Roma with the server showing the playback going as normal before "rubberbanding" back once the playback resumes on the TV. Beyond the WiFi/wired connection options, any idea what the cause might be or what I can do to isolate it? Wired connection is sadly not an option given the layout of the apartment.

Does the TV support a newer wifi protocol? have you considered a new router?
SamES 1057 Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Can you determine what wifi channel that the TV is connecting to? LG TV's are a bit fussy about the channels that they work well on
madent 2 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 I had playback issues with my LG as well with network lag... The LG only has 10/100 network so go onto Amazon and buy a Cable matters brand of usb to ethernet adapter..around 16 bucks You must disable wifi on your tv before you plug it in with an ethernet cable attached. I am now getting no more lag because the local network is now a gigabit connection. I'm also getting around 350 mbps speed online with a high speed fttp internet connection... Certainly speeds up the foxtel app loading... Another couple of hundred on top of that if your tv has a usb 3.0 2

I guess I didn't think it would work on a TV, but I should have tried. I think this is something that everyone should know about. @Luke, is there a " Tips 'n tricks " section on the forum?

Hi, there isn't but that's not a bad idea. 1
