I'm trying to setup my server to backup to a USB drive I have plugged into it. I can't figure out how to get the permissions right. Here are the details:

Ubuntu Server 24.04

USB Drive formatted with ext4, mounted to /media/usb-drive. I can write a file to this directory if I use sudo - "sudo cp testfile /media/usb-drive". I tried adding the emby user to the sudo group and the users group, I have also done "sudo chmod -777 /media/usb-drive/" but when I run the Backup Scheduled task I immediately get Failed. I'm at my wits end with this.

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/media/usb-drive/embyserver-backup-full' is denied.
---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied

Hey Luke,

Yeah, I've been browsing the forums all day. I just fixed it though; best I can tell, there is something different when mounting the drive under /media versus /mnt. This is a brand new build, so those permissions were at their defaults.

1) umounted /dev/sdb1

2) made a new directory at /mnt/embybackup

3) ran "chmod 777 /mnt/embybackup (at this point the folder turned green in the console)

4) mounted the USB drive again "sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/embybackup"

5) verified the mountpoint was set with lsblk

6) kicked off the Emby Server Backup Scheduled Task and it started, I looked in the folder and saw the folder "embyserver-backup-full" and  a folder 'Emby Server Databases - <current date>

Is this going to do a Full Backup every time, or are there incremental backups?

the first one is full, then incremental after that.
