nVidia Shield no longer auto-login to Emby Server

Emby client on my Shield used to remember my login info and auto-login to the Emby server. But the past year or two, I have to manually enter my Emby login info everytime the app resets itself. Which seems increasingly frequent. Pause a movie and exit to Emby menu? Emby will crash, and require me to reconnect to the server. Any little ting that causes the Emby app to get confused requires me to manually log in.

Is there anyway to set the Emby client to remember my login info so I don’t have to painstakingly enter the password by remote control and onscreen keyboard everytime?

Thanks for any help! :)

Or, can I set a simpler password for my server than the more complex Connect password used for Emby Connect, which I only use for this forum and my account management?

Anything to make life a bit easier dealing with whatever is going on with my client logging out all the time.

My suggestion is to NOT use Emby connect. My server and all my clients are local and I do not use "connect" and my password is VERY simple.
Also since I do not allow remote connections at all there is no reason for a secure or complex password. I usually use a single letter and I feel very secure. If anyone actually manages to break into my home and access my network and access Emby I have a LOT more problems than my Emby server.
I did have no password but, some time ago, Emby stopped allowing empty passwords and that forced me to add one even though i do not either need or want it.

To set a new password just go into settings and access the user's settings and set the password to whatever you want and DO NOT USE CONNECT for local access. Use the ip address and port of your server instead.
Something like 192.168.xxx.xxxx:8096/web/index.html#!/home works for me.
Even something simple like 192.168.xxx.xxxx:8096 works fine.

I don’t use Connect. But the password to my server is the same as the Connect password. Can they be different?

Ok, I changed my local HTPC login password to something easier and different from my Connect password. That will certainly help.

Yes, I believe so. The password for your Emby server is stored on your server locally so you do not even need an internet connection to sign in to your server.

But everything I have said is subject to being corrected by the deities at Emby. I am an quite old guy and, sometime, my memory correction mechanism fails to supply perfect info.

You know how you can walk into a room and forget why you went there?
Well, I can walk into a room and forget what room it is.

Hi.  What version of the app do you have?

What is your login behavior set to in the app startup settings?

What is "resets itself"?

If you re-install or clear data on the app, the login info will be lost.  Also, if you select "logout" from the menu, the login info will be deleted.

OK, I checked and the startup behavior was set to “Show Login Screen”. I changed it back to “Login as This User”.

Hopefully, that was the problem, and I’ve been frustrated for nothing lately :) I don’t know when or why I would have changed that setting.but maybe an update reset it or just my own user error at some point.

Fingers crossed that trivial correction is it.

The problem was i having was:

* HTPC reboot (for Windows maintenance or whatever) and Emby client wouldn’t auto login

* Shield reboot and Emby client wouldn’t auto login

* If I pause a 4K movie during play, and then menu to return to the Emby menus, Emby usually freezes and crashes. If it doesn’t lockup the Shield (requiring pulling the power plug), it crashes Emby and requires a relaunch. And the Emby client wouldn’t auto login.

Hopefully it was the startup setting that got turned off unknowingly and it will auto login from now on.

nVidia Shield had a firmware upgrade. I installed that. Shield reboots.

Launch Emby. Startup Behavior is “Login as …”.

Emby cannot automatically login. I have to manually do the login again. I’ve now changed my local login to something easy to enter. But it seems like maybe something changed the past year where Emby isn’t able to remember logins information as well as it used to?

Hi there. How have you configured the startup behavior option in the app?

Does the same happen with the standard app?

I think I am using the standard app? This is the Emby app on nVidia Shield from the nVidia's app store.

You could try clearing the cache and data for the Emby app on the Shield then set startup to remember last user and auto logoff timeout to never.

I was also going to say that I've never seen this behavior across Shield OS updates, restarts and Emby ATV app updates BUT then I remembered that the account I use for the TVs doesn't have a password...🤓

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

A week later: Emby has logged itself out again.

Will try to find the standard Emby app.

Ok found and installed the Emby for Android from the Google Play store and have it set to login as my standard user on startup. Will see how this goes.

Have had the other (standard) Emby app running the past week. Just checked, a week after last using it, and it launched and logged in as it should. So far then, this fixes the problems I was having.

Have had some reboots of the Shield and Emby login has persisted. So I'm using the Emby for Android app now, no longer the Android TV app. :)
