Clark.Lidbury 3 Posted April 6, 2025 Posted April 6, 2025 Hello. I'm on windows server v 4.8.11.0 and recently noticed that I no longer have a way to rescan library files anr/or manage libraries like add or delete libraries etc. Unless this functionality has moved somewhere. I used to be able to right click on a library and force a file rescan inside the client itself (windows app or in browser). Alternatively under the "configure emby" Dashboard page, I used to be able to manage libraries there, but no longer see that option in the left menu. The only options I see are Home, followed by Emby Web Settings, and then User settings. I have emby set to auto-scan for new files, so I didn't notice this functionality disappear until recently there was an error and I tried to re-scan files only to realise I cannot! Thanks for any help!!!
Luke 42078 Posted April 6, 2025 Posted April 6, 2025 Hi there, it has not moved. Can you please show a screenshot example? Thanks.

Have you maybe inadvertently revoked manage server privileges from that user? 1

Clark.Lidbury 3 Posted April 7, 2025 Author Posted April 7, 2025 See above screenshot - thanks for the help! How do I check/assign admin privileges? I don't think I changed anything - I have a very basic setup - My windows PC is the server and also runs the windows client. Occasionally, a second user logs in on the same wifi on the android app that's about all.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 7, 2025 Posted April 7, 2025 MOD: Probably need to delete/edit that image above if OP can't. I will guess you are using a shortcut/bookmark as a USER should have access to Dashboard. @Luke Even though all admin functions are removed. 4 minutes ago, Clark.Lidbury said: See above screenshot - thanks for the help! I would check you other accounts to see if they have admin privileges otherwise we can talk you through changing the user policy file.
Clark.Lidbury 3 Posted April 7, 2025 Author Posted April 7, 2025 Hm @Happy2PlayI deleted the screenshot. I suspect we are onto something. At somepoint along the way I created 2 user accounts - one for my wife and one for me and I can log in to either profile and neither have admin privilidges. But there is not other profile - is it possible I deleted the profile that had admin rights? lol I don't know why I would have done that

You will have to shutdown Emby and edit the user policy.xml. Obviously, paths will be platform prevalent.
Clark.Lidbury 3 Posted April 7, 2025 Author Posted April 7, 2025 (edited) this was it! Interestingly whichever profile was the admin was flagged as HIDDEN inside the policy xml file. Either way once I figured out which userID string matched the user profile I usually use, I could easily edit the xml to show administrator TRUE and we are back in business. Thanks! Weird! How does a profile become hidden? Did I do that? lol thanks @Happy2Play@Lukeand @GrimReaper Edited April 7, 2025 by Clark.Lidbury
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 7, 2025 Posted April 7, 2025 Keep forgetting it could be available HDD space also.

Luke 42078 Posted April 8, 2025 Posted April 8, 2025 Having the admin be hidden is not a bad thing. If you've enabled remote access and someone discovers your emby server, then your admin username will be visible to them.
