iPad/iPhone USB C to HDMI. Screening mirroring and sound work no problem until video playback is started, then the mobile device only displays playback controls, no video. External monitor works as expected with video playback. Do I have a Settings issue?

Is this expected behavior? If so is it possible to allow video playback mirroring as well?

Hi, currently it needs to be screen mirroring. We’ll look at improving it. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the response @Luke. To be clear, when I’m using the portable iOS device, connected USB C to HDMI I’m able to see output on the device’s screen and the external monitor successfully right up until video playback is started. Once playback starts I’m unable to achieve video output to both the iPad/iPhone and external display. The iOS device’s screen show the video controls but the video itself is just black screen, the external shows the video, the sound is played on the external which is ok for my use case. Is this expected behavior? I only want to mirror video on the native device (iPad/iphone) not sound. You mentioned screen mirroring and I don’t see a way to get this video duplicated, have you successfully done so? thanks

I’ll mark this as solved, I just want clarify @Lukehave you mirrored actual emby video playback on both device and external monitor with an iOS device somehow?

Hi, this is the expected behavior. When an external screen is connected, Emby will stop screen mirroring and display video directly on the connected screen. This is to ensure video is displayed properly on the connected display.

We are however looking at adding an option to control this behavior, which would allow you to continue screen mirroring.

Thanks Josh, it would be much appreciated for

our use case if that were possible!

The problem is that video will be rendered based on the phone screen and not the external monitor so that is the tradeoff.

I don’t think that would be a problem for what we need
