CallieCat 4 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Hi Emby Nation, Longtime Emby user, really appreciate all of the time and effort Luke and team put into the Emby ecosystem. After the latest update, the Emby for Windows app for Xbox no longer responds to the Skip Forward or Skip Back buttons. With previous versions, the Left and Right Directional Buttons responded to Skip Forward and Skip Back. With the new version, the buttons mapped to "Skip, Previous" or "Skip, Next" no longer respond (I have two different Xbox Media Remotes, same issue). The buttons mapped for "Fast Forward" or "Rewind" do not respond either. The only way to Fast Forward or Rewind content is to hold down the Left or Right Directional keys for ~3 seconds, then release the button and as quickly as possible, press the "OK" button. If I release the FF or Rewind button, the player continues to go forward or back not stopping on the spot I guess this is a new feature, and if so, are there any workarounds to revert the Left and Right Directional buttons to Skip Forward and Back? Skipping Foward and Back in a video was super quick and responsive. This is a very similar issue reported by @MikeB111, albeit I'm on Xbox and using an Xbox remote. Also, similar to an issue that @pgriffithreported with a WMC remote: Thanks!
Luke 42077 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Hi, is this the same issue as those other topics? 1

Its a similar issue, but slightly different than the the other two folks mentioned in those posts. In @pgriffith post,. they're using a Windows Media Center remote to control the Emby app for Windows. In @MikeB111post, they're using a keyboard. However it seems they're having the same "no skip" issues that I'm having. Its difficult for me to articulate the exact differences between the issues pgriffith and Mikeb111 have and the issues I'm having. They're similar setups and remotes, but not exactly the same. However, they seem to experience similar FF/RW/Skip issues. Here are the two remotes I'm using for Emby on Xbox: Amazon.com: PDP Universal Gaming Media TV Remote Control for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Officially Licensed for Microsoft Xbox, Motion Activated Backlight, Compact Navigation Toggle, Battery Optimized : Video Games Amazon.com: PDP Gaming Multipurpose Talon Media Remote Control: Xbox One, Blu-Ray, Streaming Media : Video Games Just to reiterate, before the latest Emby updates: The Left and Right directional buttons performed Skip Back and Skip Forward The Fast Forward and Rewind buttons also performed Skip Back and Skip Forward With the latest updates: The Left and Right directional buttons no longer Skip Forward or Skip Back The Left and Right direction buttons now map to Fast Forward and Rewind Fast Forwarding and Rewinding require me to hold the buttons down for ~3 seconds, at which point the video player "seeks". The video itself doesn't actually FF or RW. just the navigation line in the OSD. I have to release the button, then immediately press "OK" in order for the FF or RW to stop. In order to FF/RW again, I have to The actual buttons that are supposed to be mapped to Fast Forward and Rewind no longer function If it helps I'll make a video of me holding the remote, pressing buttons and the behavior on-screen. FWIW, I tested via Plexand FF/RW/Skip all respond normally; same content, same remotes, same Xbox. Thanks!
MBSki 1114 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 I'm guessing, but I don't think the device used to skip matters much here. It seems to just be the function in the app that's broken. 2

CallieCat 4 Posted February 12, 2025 Author Posted February 12, 2025 Also, I tested with a gamepad and experienced the same behavior. Thru the gamepad, Skip no longer works in the video player, although it's mapped correctly in the app settings. Another issue I noticed, no big deal though, I'm patient: 1). Power on Xbox 2). Launch Emby and wait for the animations to finish and the Emby home screen appears 3). Once in the home screen, it takes ~7 minutes for Emby to recognize buttons being pressed from the remote or gamepad Once Emby responds to the buttons, the only buttons being recognized are directional left/up/right/down Clicking the Left directional button brings up the Side Menu 4). Exit out of Emby back to the XB home screen 5). Re-launch Emby and it immediately responds to remote buttons Thanks
darkassassin07 652 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 I've noticed this over the last couple days as well; jist hadn't got around to detailing it. Pressing ff/rr (whether that's the directional buttons or the dedicated fast forward/rewind buttons) will work one single time per app launch, skipping 10sec then refusing to move any further. @CallieCatThat second issue you mentioned in the above comment is known. If you press the xbox home button to bring up the side menu, then close it; the app regains focus and you can start using it. @softworkz is working on that one already I believe. 1
CallieCat 4 Posted February 12, 2025 Author Posted February 12, 2025 Hi @darkassassin07thanks for detailing workaround for the the second issue.
softworkz 5066 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 This is fixed for both, Windows and Xbox, starting from Beta 2.217.0 (released today). It might take about a week until a new stable release will be available. Thanks a lot for reporting! 3
CallieCat 4 Posted February 14, 2025 Author Posted February 14, 2025 Hi @softworkzthank you and the team for implementing the fix! I'll keep an eye on my Dashboard for the when the new stable release has been downloaded and installed, then test again and report back. Take Care, CC 1
