Sync folder filling up storage, can't find reason

My setup:

Emby Premiere, running of a container, from emby/embyserver:latest (Version 4.8.10.0), on a ubuntu host.

Hello Everyone! I'm facing a weird issue that I can't find a solution after some searching and some chat-gpt-ing, perhaps some good souls would be able to help?

I travelled and when I came back my server had full disk space, when I diagnosed I found that the folder sync had a subfolder 27 and a bunch of media files there (mostly mkv). deleted a few so I could look  at the UI (login wasn't working). 

I can't see any conversion jobs and I can't find anything related to sync on the admin pages.

On the logs folders, I found ~111 files named ffmpeg-transcode-<guide>_1.txt.

I'm not sure WHY this is happening. I couldn't find any reason, but this is the task that is filling up my disk (the folder /config maps out to a host-based folder).

Can anyone help me figure this out? I've cleaned this folder before and I came back up again.

Hi, what download and conversion jobs are setup on the server?

Hey Luke, none, I couldn't find any.

I did try to download a few friends episode before my trip though... 

Weirly enough, I just can't play any friends episodes on my Iphone anymore (re-installed Emby on my iPhone, just now).

Edit: BTW: I can see the videos from the WebUI on my PC and on my phone, but not on the app itself. Error: No compatible streams are currently available, please try again later or contact your sysadmin for details.

This is happening with other videos too (not only the friends show).

Your download jobs could have triggered conversions, depending on the settings you used, which won't show up in the conversions tab. What download jobs are on the Downloads tab a few links down under conversions? And if there is more than one, when looking at the job does it mention a quality at the top or does it say original?

There's no download jobs.

(BTW: I might have deleted jobs while troubleshooting, but now the problem is that almost no videos are playing).

To be clear, the files stopped appearing (I've deleted folder 27)... I've created folder 27 to see if it would resolve the "not playing" files on iOS app, but it didn't.

I've installed the app on IPad and it's working fine, but not on Iphone. (I realize the issue has morphed, I'm 100% ok with creating a new topic for that... just let me know)

Update: Tested on another iphone, Emby for iOS v 2.2.31 and it works fine. 

Updated it to 2.2.34 (Same version on the other iPhone) and it still works :( (I thought I'd found a version issue).

What could be happening is the server is being denied access to delete the files after it is done with them.

Since you have no open jobs, you can safely delete all of the current files. Then just see if it happens again in the future.

Fair enough... I'll keep you posted. What should we do with the iOS app not being able to play most titles? Any suggestions? Should I open a new thread?

Ok... I have some good news (For me at least). 

I've rebooted the problematic iPhone, and it started playing again. Furthermore, I've issued a download request, and I saw the folder being created.

I was also tailing the logs, and I saw the "job XXX transferred" (number matched the folder created in the sync folder). 

The download file is on my iPhone, and it plays well. Sync folder is empty (has subfolders but they don't have any files now).

I'd guess that:

1) I had multiple download jobs failing for some reason and Emby was trying to fulfil those

1a) Perhaps the failures were due to me leaving the LAN before they finished generating... and it was trying to fulfil them all and fill the disk.

1b) Perhaps, the sync folder didn't had proper permissions too... (I re-created, and chown it, but I'm not sure how it was before).

2) The iPhone stuff was just a fluke, and restarting the phone (hard reset) fixed it.
