aspdend 177 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Using the new Windows App on my Windows 10 htpc as normal. If I am watching a programme or film, doesn't matter what format of file I believe, if I pause it for a longish time (not sure of exact time it takes, longer than 10 minutes I think, anything shorter there is no issue) when I start it back up, there is no audio playing, just the video. If I go back out of the playing screen and then resume it plays perfectly fine both audio and video. This is a new issue with the new app, didn't happen on the old software. The only things that have changed on the system are using the new app and a Windows update that coincided at the same time.
Guest Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 In the settings under video player > audio options, what is it set to for audio device?

What do you mean by "old software" - Emby Theater Desktop or the previous store app? There's a server change which abandons an active transcoding session after some time (which it didn't before). Can you look at the server whether there's transcoding involved?

Sorry, yes I meant theatre desktop not the old store app. This happens for direct play videos so it's not a transcoding issue
softworkz 5066 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Okay, thanks for the clarification! Do you have "Exclusive Audio" mode enabled? Any passthrough formats enabled? Does the behavior persist when changing "Exclusive Audio" mode? Does the TV go on standby or is there any power-saving enabled (blank screen or something)? I'm asking that many questions because you're the first one to report this, so the answer to why it is happening is probably tied to the question what might be different on your system to all the others'.

Exclusive audio is not selected whilst this is happening. I will turn it on and see if I can reproduce this. There is no audio passthrough emabled. The tv doesn't go to standby but I do have windows set to display a screensaver which consists of a slideshow of photos from my unraid server where all my media is stored. The screensaver kicks in after a minute of inactivity and persists for a good 30 minutes or so I believe. Whilst the screensaver is running, for the first approx 10 minutes, if i wiggle the mouse for the htpc or press a button on the remote it goes back to emby and I can play the file with no issues. But if i do this after approx 10 minutes of the file being on pause, the file plays with no audio. For clarity the TV is a smart tv that has no Internet connection at all. It is only connected to the htpc via a hdmi cable. The htpc is only used for this tv. The htpc has a hard wired Internet connection to a switch and then the router. The htpc houses the emby server software and the emby windows app. I have a separate machine running unraid that stores all my media. This too has a hardwired connection to the switch.
aspdend 177 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 I can confirm that with Exclusive Audio on now then it exhibits the same behaviour
Solution softworkz 5066 Posted December 30, 2024 Solution Posted December 30, 2024 Okay thanks. Can you post an mpv log from when this happens? I would also try this: Completely disable all power mananagement in the BIOS Disable screen saver Enable High-Power Plan open Control Panel, select System and Security > Power Options, then choose a High performance power plan click Change Plan Settings >> Change Advanced Power Settings and make sure that there's nothing which gets switched off after some time Go to Settings >> System >> Power make sure there are no energy saving settings enabled anymore, and there's neither "turn off screen" nor "make device sleep after" is enabled Settings >> System >> Display Make sure that no "custom settigns for applications" are enabled/configured Do you have multiple GPUs, or is it a laptop with a hybrid gpu setup? Thanks

Thanks Hi, sorry for the delay in responding, life getting in the way!. I do only have a single guy and after trying multiple different options, I found I had the setting for turn display off after 20 minutes of inactivity set in windows. I am very positive that I had previously set that to never as I had gone through and adjusted the power settings to be for performance with everything always on so I have manual control when i originalky configured the machine. Either way, once I set that to never, it seems to have been the culprit of that audio issue! Thanks as always for the time and responses 1
softworkz 5066 Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Thanks, glad to hear you got it resolved. 1
