Scanning Library Taking A VERY Long Time - Like Going on 2 Days Now

Hi!

My PC crashed so I had to format the hard drive. Thankfully I have the backups for Emby on a different drive. I reinstalled Emby, and copied the metadata folder over, but it's not linking up and the thumbnails are still broken. I hit replace metadata but the scanning is taking a very very long time. Is there something I can do to fix this or start over with the scanning again? I clearly didn't do something right when copying the folder over. Your help is greatly appreciated!!  Thank you!

Hi there, what exactly did you copy?

I'm not at home right now so I can't give you the exact path. But basically I pointed my metadata and the cash to a separate hard drive, in the settings of MV so that's where it was storing all the data I'm assuming because there's lots of files in the folders.

So I copied that metadata folder over to my c drive after I installed and be server. I even went one step further because it was taking so long that I actually deleted all the files in the metadata folder so that I could start fresh and I clicked on replace metadata and asked it to scan the folder again but it still taking a very long time.

A couple hours I can understand but a couple days tells me that there's a problem so I don't know how to start fresh with my scans or what I can do.

It mainly depends on what features are enabled. If you can attach an emby server log then we can offer some advice on how to speed up your scans:

Thanks !

Hi, sure, thank you!  I have attached 2 logs. I have a TON of logs that start with "quick-extract-imageseries -XXXXXXXX_X.txt" and when I open those, it looks like it's using FFMPEG to re-encode my videos. Why would it be doing that?

It's generating video thumbnails, did you previously have that option enabled and/or do you save your BIF files with your media?

Hi, so I must have checked that by mistake not realizing what it's doing. Ugh... I'm sorry to bother you then. I didn't mean to waste your time. :(  Thank you!

i also found out the hard way another scenario can cause long frozen scans after a restore backup of the programdata folder.

i had emby folder on the d drive of 2 pcs. both had strm files on d drive in same place on both pcs. Except one pc the strm files had meta files in it. and the library was built on the other pc that didnt have or use that feature. but it still held up the scan on the new pc because those files was in there.

im keeping all that convivence stuff out of emby and let it be dynamic since its fast as well.
