feerlessleadr 173 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Hi - I'm aware that the emby server requires an online connection to phone home in order to validate my premiere key, but I was under the impression that the various apps (including the Android mobile app) authenticate against my server for premiere key verification, and didn't need an internet connection to phone home for verification. However, I just migrated my firewall to OPNSense, and with that new flexibility, wanted to block my kids' Android tablets from accessing the internet, but still allow them to access my internal LAN where the emby server resides. All was working great for a week or 2, and then just yesterday, the Android app starting asking for payment to continue playing. As soon as I removed the WAN block on my OPNSense box, the prompt went away. Can any of the devs confirm if/why the Android app needs to phone home for license verification if my server is already doing that, and my apps are connecting locally to my server? I don't want my kids using a device that can access the internet (granted they don't really know what that means yet, but just randomly clicking can get them there), but at the same time I obviously need the emby android app to work correctly as well. Thanks!
feerlessleadr 173 Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Just to add to this - if the phone home requirement is a hard requirement (i.e. there is no way to have a full block on internet access for the tablets), can someone provide the address that emby phones home to so that I can allow that specific address only through my firewall to keep the key authenticated, but still block internet access for the rest of the internet? Thanks
feerlessleadr 173 Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 So doing some searching of the forums for the license check address to add to my OPNSense firewall, and it seems that I was just ignorant of the process, and that the apps don't perform the check with the server directly, but with emby servers. Not a huge deal for me, but if @ebror @Lukecould let me know what the address is so that I can whitelist in my firewall, that would make my life much better. 1
