Guest Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I'm trying to add a network library into my emby server and get the error 'The directory 'Network' cound not be found.' (you misspelled could in the error message btw.) The text on the page even says 'Network paths can be entered manually in the event the Network button fails to locate your devices.', but when the network button does fail, it doesn't try to add my shared network folder I type in. (see pic) I'm assuming I can somehow make use of the docker switches --volume or --net when I start docker to assist in the creation of the "Network" folder but there is nothing in the docker documentation on adding network drives or how to create the "Network" folder. The remote drive/files can be accessed on the local lan using windows shares (SMB) or http on port 80; whatever will get the job done. Thanks in advance,
Neminem 1518 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I always mount the share on host. And then I mount that share in my docker.
Luke 42077 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 HI, what is the path that you're trying to add that causes this error?
Guest Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 @Neminem the host is a barebones arch linux distro and doesn't have the ability/software to mount samba shares, nor do I want to add or find the required hdd space and power to install and run the samba protocol to it. I could possibly mount the http/https folder on the host, since it has www protocol but I've not researched "mounting http to a folder" to know if this is a good idea or not. @LukeIt is the last item in the list called "Network", the same path that is referenced in the error message. I'm at work so I don't have a screenshot but I can get one later. So far, I've had moderate success using the emby app vs web interface to add the network share but it is quirky and is auto detecting the wrong network share after typing in `smb://1.2.3.4` into the path (i'll try and add the optional shared network folder later on and troubleshoot it in the app). If i use web interface, i always get the error listed above and adding a network share never works.

And how would you expect emby to do this, when you OS can't ? Since you never told us what OS you are running how is this a given ? Edited December 3, 2024 by Neminem
Guest Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 @NeminemThe OS is on an embedded 256mb nand memory with docker on it while the emby container is on a 2tb drive and is not space limited. The os doesn't have this ability because it wasn't required for docker and emby can install whatever plugins it needs to work (I think mediabrowser or folder sync had what I needed according to a forum post). When I use the emby app vs the web interface to configure the server, I no longer get the error 'The directory "Network" could not be found' however, not all of my samba shares are being added and the samba shares that are added are only detecting a few media files so I'm still considering trying to use the http protocol.
Solution Luke 42077 Posted December 3, 2024 Solution Posted December 3, 2024 Quote It is the last item in the list called "Network", the same path that is referenced in the error message. Network isn't a real path. It's not something you can enter into the file picker.
Guest Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 @Luke I didn't get that at first and wasn't understanding I could directly enter in the network path into the file picker. I was also trying \\ip\ as suggested, but the help info there was confusing me. For my solution, I ended up using "smb://1.2.3.4/share" and that was the correct syntax. The info at the top of the page could have mentioned smb://server as well as \\server, or /server. Using android was easier and helped me realize where I was messing up using firefox. Lastly, I may open up a new ticket, but SMB wasnt/isn't working on some network drives because some of my drives use SMBv4 and some use KSMB and I need to check if emby supports ksmb. Thanks for your help.
