wixwonkity 9 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) I have recently added the American Dad series to Emby. All my episode video files are named correctly. I go to IMDb and their season/episode listing matches my video files. I run identify and season 2 is all screwed up and then cascades with wrongness all through the rest of the seasons. I removed identification. Redid identify and specifically entered the IMDb id. It prompted me with American Dad, and I clicked it. It ran for a long time and, once again, season 2 is all screwed up. Completely different than what IMDb has on their site. Even the episode descriptions are different. I am very confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Smitty018210 143 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) I don't believe this is emby, someone can correct me if I am wrong, but it's the meta data coming from TVDB. For whatever reason they have, their order of episodes is different then whats is listed else where sometimes. It's not just this series. It happens with others too. FYI: Emby dose not pull information from IMDB. IMDB charges an insane amount of money for that. Edited November 15, 2024 by Smitty018210

Would you be able to tell me what services are available to get the information from? Or, is there a way to "override" this info locally?

Weird I know lol You can edit each episode metadata and then lock that episode. Once it's locked emby shouldn't be able to refresh the metadata again and wont change the episode order. wixwonkity 9 Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Yep. Makes sense now. Those two services have the "wrong" season listings as compared to the "official" American Dad wiki. Might be easier for me to just rename my video files. Thank you for your time and great explanations! 1
tedfroop21 86 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) Have you checked the different sort orders available on theTVDB? There is usually more than one sort order available. Like Aired Order, DVD Volumes, Absolute Order, Streaming Order, Production Order. One of these should match the order you want. Once you find the one that matches the order you want, open Emby as admin. Click on the gear in the right corner. On the left panel, scroll down to Metadata Manager, then TV Shows, Shows, the TV show in question. Once you select the show, on the right panel the 5th item down is sort order. Set that to the sort order you want and magic happens - then you have the right meta to go with you show, no matter the order. Edited November 15, 2024 by tedfroop21 1
wixwonkity 9 Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Awesome! I did not know that. Thank you so much! 1

wixwonkity 9 Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 Thanks again for your help in pointing this feature out to me. Unfortunately, the tvdb order that matches is called "Alternate Order" and that is not available in the Sort Order drop down menu.
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 This is becoming increasingly common, and is brought up regularly; but the devs have yet to move on it... Paul

Ahh. Guess I am late to the party. I was not aware of any of this. Thanks for the information.
Luke 42079 Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Yes the list is static and needs to be made dynamic based on your top ranked metadata fetcher for the library.

So, thetvdb needs to first in all three categories, Series Metadata Downloaders, Season Metadata Downloaders, and Episode Metadata Downloaders? (in the admin menu under Libraries, click on the TV shows library to adjust)
wixwonkity 9 Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 I am not sure I understand what this accomplishes?

I think Luke means the list of selectable orders (which suggests he's been thinking about how to implement alternate orders). The different metadata providers have different options beyond those currently available in Emby, and different shows may or may not have extra options - so the list offered by Emby should be made correspond with that offered for the show in the DB which was used to identify it, which is the first in the list.
