I upgraded my DSM and my Emby server stopped working - "Needs repair"

I WAS running DSM 7.1.1 on my Synology DS718+.  On a recommendation in this forum, I had manually upgraded my Emby server to V 4.8.10.0-704081000 (downloaded from your website), even though the Synology Package Center showed only an earlier version as the most current update (4.8.8.0-724080800).  Certain additional features, like collaboration on Playlists made the update attractive.  Everything was working fine.

I just upgraded my DSM to 7.2.2-72806, because Synology sent me an email that said they discovered serious security issues with earlier DSM versions.  I called Synology support directly on the phone & walked through the upgrade process with the technician, to make sure it was legit.  There are too many email scams these days.  Also worth mentioning, there is no reasonable way to downgrade back to an earlier DSM version without deleting the entire content of the NAS.  I have a hyper backup on an external HD (a bit like Time Machine on a Mac), so it might be possible, but would be a drastic option.

When I logged in to the newly updated NAS, the Emby icon was gray with a red exclamation point next to it (SS 1).  When I clicked on it, the error message said it needed to be repaired.  There was a repair option, so I clicked it (I didn't think to capture a SS). Now, clicking the Emby icon (that still looks like SS 1) shows Emby has stopped and only offers an option to uninstall (SS 2).  Because Emby has stopped, I don't have access to log files.

Before I take any further actions, I wanted to consult to get expert advice.  I have spent over a month, investing hours & hours into Emby to bring it up to speed to replace Video Station, since Video Station is no longer supported by Synology from this DMS version going forward (why I started with Emby in the first place).  I don't want to uninstall and re-install the wrong version of Emby or the wrong way & lose all the efforts I have made thus far.

I assume that I can just install the correct version of Emby, that is compatible with DSM 7.2.2-72806, but I am not sure what version of Emby that would be.  Should I go to the Emby website & look for 4.8.10+, or install the version recommended by the Package Center 4.8.8, which I assume would be compatible with the current DSM.  However, that would be an earlier version compared to what I had installed.  What would happen to all the new data I entered in 4.8.10?  I have backups of everything on my NAS in a dedicated Shared Folder.  Would backup data from 4.8.10 be compatible with 4.8.8?

I am in quite a quandary.  Until I resolve this, I have no streaming access to my content, now that Emby is out of commission & Video Station won't work either.  I hope there is a simple solution to this problem, but I want to make sure I take the right steps in the right order so I don't lose EVERYTHING,

Hi,

Go to the download link on our website and download the Synology DSM 7.2+ version of Emby Server and install it.
Both the 7.0 and 7.2 releases were both breaking releases, meaning the changes the changes Synology made to the OS would require a path on new install from the app vendor.

Thank you!!  After updating Emby, will I need to restore from my backup, or will it automatically resume the prior settings, metadata, images, etc?

Not if things go as planned. :)

It's possible that running the repair could have goofed something up, but I don't think that will be the case.

OK!  I downloaded the 64 bit version from your website & successfully downloaded it to my laptop, then manually installed it to the NAS.  It went smoothly, though I had to agree to assume responsibility for any consequences, since it is not in the Synology "approved"  software list.  Once installed, it opened & it appears that all my edited metadata and images are intact (whew!).  I didn't check everything, but I looked at an appropriately representative sample.

I seem to be back in business.  If I have any other issues I will come back to the forum.  Thanks again!
