How to force regenerage thumb file without changing any metadata

Hi.

Previously one of my libraries has set saving thumb files with the original location, but later the option is removed as well as all thumb files. Now the existing files within this library has no thumb displayed but a picture like the tvshow itself. Try to regenerate the thumb by refreshing metadata but no good. Because many of those metadata auto matched are wrong, metadata of the library with more than 10k files are fixed totally manually. Even set to locked, the refreshing metadata process will destroy those correct metadata by something wrong. Is there any way, like operation, api, data changing etc, can make emby to regenerate thumb files but no touch other metadata?

Thanks.

Where was it removed? Which option you're referring to?

Correction: removed by myself. The option is "Save artwork into media folders". And all "-thumb.jpg" files are deleted as well.

Hi there, can you please provide a specific example?

Coz those media files are not really TV series. I just use EMBY to manage them as TV show. So I have to, that's OK, to change the metadata for each single file. Only I need to keep those data from overwritting. Maybe it's ok to disable all sources but NFO before refreshing?

If they don't match to any internet database then yes you should probably do this.

But again, can we please see this? Thanks.

Sure.

This library involved is for managed philharmoniker concerts. The folder treated as TVshow is the name of the philharmoniker like "Wiener Philharmoniker". The folders treated as seasons are the name of performance season including year and season name if presents. The files treated as episode are the recording. Each file is named including date, city name, hall name and camera number or release cut number.

Most of these videos are not released and only used for internal use and museum visitors. But some are really released as documentary and can be recognized correctly. The naming policy of video files leading to wrong season and episode number guessing by emby. And the folders are identified as some tv show, which should not be, as well.

OK so that is your library, but can you please describe this process in more detail:

Sure.

Those metadata is set by NFO outside emby. Some editing is done before adding to emby, some other editing is done later and emby "Refresh Metadata" is done. All files are set "Lock this item to prevent future changes". But while taking metadata rescanning (internet source is not disabled yet, like TVDB), metadata still is overwritten.

Right, that is a general description. What I'm asking for is a specific example. We need to deep dive in order to find out what is going on because this is not normal behavior.

Okay, I'll post it next time it changed by rescanning. It may take some time due to scheduled maintenance window.

Report: By refreshing missing metadata and replacing images without any sources checked other than NFO, the thumb files are created. Some metadata like season and episode are changed due to file names. No other data changing mentioned.
