ThomasPdt 4 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I ran the setup.exe (downloaded from emby.media) with a standard user account but it requires Admin rights to install it. It's all fine, I gave it the rights but I want to use Emby from my standard user account (not install it under C:\Users\Administrator). Is this possible? When launching setup.exe, I saw that a parameter of the installer is "admin=true". What if I run the same command without this parameter, what will it do?
Carlo 4560 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Hi, Sounds like you already installed it as a normal user. Windows was likely just having you give admin permissions for the install itself.
ThomasPdt 4 Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 Indeed, but Embyserver.exe was placed under C:\Users\Administrator instead of my user account folder. So I cannot start Emby Server with my standard account, I need to log in to my administrator account. Is there no way around that?

Is this possible? Yes, install the portable version. You can install/unzip it where you like. Releases · MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases (github.com) Also Admin(or suitable rights anyway) will be needed for any updates to the Windows firewall but it's not required to run it once installed. Is there any inconvenient in using the portable version? Will I be able to update/upgrade Emby from the GUI interface as well or do I need to download the new portable zip for every new update?
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 The portable version is identical with the version installed by the installer; it's simply that you don't run the installer and get its default location. Paul 1
ng4ever 40 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Will either installed version by installer or portable version auto-upgrade if you keep that option, auto update, checked with a standard user windows account ? Edited January 9 by ng4ever
