Emby Android cannot connect to server (After changing routers)

Hello everyone,

Have used Emby for years without any issues, but lately, changed ISP's and they sent me a new router (A Nokia Fastmile 3.2). Ever since then, I've had serious connection issues with the Emby App on my phone.

Sometimes, it won't connect to my server at all, saying "Unable to reach...Please ensure it is running and try again". The server is run off of my Desktop, and my Desktop and Phone are on the same WiFi network. The odd thing is, when I check the Emby Web App on my desktop, I can clearly see my cell phone as one of the options under the "Cast" button (Although clicking it does nothing on my phone).

Perhaps most frustrating of all, I'll sometimes be able to access Emby via my Android App no problem, but after a random amount of time, it'll sudden pause/go black in the middle of a show or movie, and my app will lose access to the server again.

I have to admit, that my knowledge of networks is non-existent. I've creeped the forum for other bits of advice, and have checked my firewall (EmbyServer is allowed through the firewall, both public and private), and have made my desktop discoverable on the network (It is set to private).

I'm at my wits end with this app, and thought I'd ask for help!

Thanks in advance

P.S: Not sure if this is related or not, but my router is also my modem, and it is a dual band modem. Would that affect my connectivity issues? If my Cell were on the 2.4 hz network and my PC on the 5 hz?

Hi there, are you able to connect from inside your local network?

Hi Luke,

Sorry, I should've clarified. These connection issues I'm having are all while on the local network (cell phone is on the same wifi as my server)

Do you know the new local IP address of your server machine? It is probably different from before.

Yes, I use the ip provided by emby on the dashboard. The connection issues appear random. Sometimes it connects no problem (only to disconnect mid movie), sometimes it can't find the server at all

Does the server ip address frequently change now with the new router?

When I first got it, I wasn't sure if the IP was changing. So to be safe, I went through the router and reserved a static IP for my server. As far as I know, the server should be static now

Now that you've done that, has this helped you resolve your issue?

No, issues are still present with intermittent connectivity issues.

Hey Luke,

I ended up giving up and elected to create a separate 5 GHz only wifi network called "media". My server is always connected to it, and I now manually switch my phone to "media" whenever I want to use emby.

I suspect that when my original dual band wifi network automatically switched my server from 5 to 2.4, it messed everything up.

Not a fix, more an annoying work around.
