Some TV Shows are not added to catalog

Hi folks,

Like many Synology users, after announcement that DS Video Station will no longer be supported after DSM 7.2.2, I'm looking for alternatives. By far, Emby Server seems to be the way to go, many interesting and useful features added, but along the challenges, I'm finding the following which are related (if I can add a custom, I can manage to workaround the second question :)

1) How to add your personal/custom media metadata information ?

I have several videos from family, gags, friends et all. To make it easier to index, I used to edit the DS Video Metadata and included/edit my own information based on the folder path/file. I searched through the forum and KB, and didn't find anything related. If I misread, appreciate if someone could indicate me a thread/tutorial on this matter.

2) How to force/include Folder/Files that are not automatically detected ?

DS Video automatically detected and catalog the content based on the metadata - multiple sources. Plex also did the same based on the existing structure detecting properly. Haven't tried jellyfin yet.

TV Shows/name of the show/episodes.s0xExx.mkv

However, with Emby, most of my content with same structure was detected and presented properly -  and after having issues with some - I found the [tvdbid=xxxx] [imdbid=ttxxxxxx] and [tmdb=xxxx] metadata feature in the folder name. This helped with a particular TV Show (Slow Horses), but is not working for some others (House of the Dragon for example). I tried most combinations in the Folder Name as indicated in TV naming guide as https://emby.media/support/articles/TV-Naming.html  for example :

  • House of the Dragon (2022) [tmdbid=94997] [imdbid-tt11198330] [tvdb=371572]
  • House of the Dragon [tmdb=94997]
  • [tvdbid=371572]
  • [tmdb-94997]
  • [imdbid-tt11198330]
  • [imdb=tt11198330]

Forced rescan the library, added emby as read/write into the system users, added RTM into bootup to increase notification, tried Auto Organize plugin, and some media still doesn't show up at all ( neither as Unmatched Folders, or anything else. It's like the TV Show folder didn't exist in the directory).

Appreciate any tips on the matter !

Thanks in advance

Being unfamiliar with DS Video Metadata, did not understood that one: "included/edited your own information based on the folder path/file" - is that embedded metadata or something else?

Any one of these should've worked:

House of the Dragon (2022) [tmdbid=94997]

House of the Dragon (2022) [imdbid=tt11198330]

House of the Dragon (2022) [tvdbid=371572]

What is that library type (TV shows or Mixed content)? What are your library enabled meta-providers and in what order? Also, were there existing NFOs with your media? Do you have any Parental Controls on your user?

You can remove series folder from your root, scan media library to clear the db, move it back, run a scan again, post server log afterwards.

A: DS Video allows you to edit/fill the metadata for any folder/file (EDIT VIDEO INFO). The option Correct Video Info, it's similar to Identify on Emby,

A: Agreed ! And it worked for Slow Horses for example.

A: TV Shows, same as all other folders in the directory. Most other TV Shows (468 of them) shows up correctly.

A: Here's the actual order - I've tried many ways, even including new sources (TV Maze, FanArt plugins for example)

Also, were there existing NFOs with your media?

NFO is enabled.

Do you have any Parental Controls on your user?

A: No Parental Controls, nor Tags - this behavior is for all users

I've done that a few times - checking the log, I've found the following: What user must have access to these ? Emby (System user) already have R/W privileges to the VIDEO folder.

Quote

Data path: /var/packages/EmbyServer/var
    Application path: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/volume1/video/TV Shows/House of the Dragon (2022) [tvdb=371572]' is denied.
     ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied

    Application path: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/volume1/video/TV Shows/Guillermo del Toros Cabinet of Curiosities' is denied.
     ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied

Seems like a permission issue overall. I'm copying (Not moving) the folders which are stuck in the library metadata scan (Access Denied), will Scan the Library without errors and will copy them back again.

Since the emby user is system generated, I don't know how to grant the privileges without going through SSH et all. Don't want to do that now, so let's workaround ;)

Thank you all. I'll keep you posted.

Hi folks,

It didn't work, and library crashed - I don't have access at all to some folders... I'll reinstall Emby from scratch.

Hi, what do you mean by library crashed?

It was all messed up - and all items were gone after the refresh, although accessible with Emby system user - it was my fault changing permissions across the board to see if it worked.

I managed to SSH into @appdata/EmbyServer and rm -r the folder completely, and reinstalled from scratch (adding the libraries only after the privilege to "Emby" system user in Synology was granted. It's all working as expected now.

Thank you all for the tips and support - The NFO data will allow me to edit and solve my first question on this thread.

Cheers and keep it up !
