podonnell 47 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 I swear I saw this working at one point, but maybe I am wrong. I was hoping for the functionality you see in streaming services like "Who's Watching?" when you launch the app, so you can pick the user manually each time. Is this something that is currently supported on any platform? I know you can change user a few different ways, but trying to have that option up-front when you launch the app on a TV used by a handful of people.
ebr 16184 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Hi. In the Android TV app you can select "Show Login Screen" as the startup behavior in settings. In the Roku app, if you turn off "Remember me" it will present the select server/user screen on startup and authenticated users will still have their authentication remembered. 1
dprovencher 1 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Where do we activate this with the normal Android app (not TV)? I too find this very lacking with kids when you're used to Netflix, D+, etc. I have young kids even some that can't read but can use the TV on their own and navigate easily with other streaming apps.

I'm really having trouble finding this. Is it within the 'server settings'? I went into the playback, home screen, etc.. personal settings as well and can't seem to locate it. This is on my SHIELD which I believe uses Android TV app?
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Where did you look? Don't have a Shield but this is from my tablet with Android TV app (2.1.21g) Gear-Startup-Start up Behavior 2

podonnell 47 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 Hmm I don't think I have this on Shield. I tried a long press on the Emby app but no startup settings.

Ah shoot, no. Mine is 3.4.20 Android -- so I think its not considered Android TV. I'm guessing this is not a feature currently implemented on Shield sadly. 1
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Correct as there are lots of differences in the TV vs standard app.

You can download AndroidTV app on your Shield and have that feature now - or follow below topic to check when will item 56 be implemented. 2

It is available on that device, you just need to be running the correct app which it is implemented in. There are currently two different Emby apps available for the Shield. You have already stated you are running the standard Android app, as per Happy's screens above, you will find this feature in the 'Emby for Android TV' app. 2

It also had very low quality images if I recall. Good to know that it's an upcoming feature though, I can happily hold out for that.
