codechurn 9 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 I just noticed that the Roku App does not have an option to view movie trailers, unlike the web and android implementations. Will this be added at some point in time?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Yes it is a YouTube requirement issue per the platform.
speechles 2055 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 (edited) You can still download local trailers on Roku and these will show up. In regards to trailer links there are 2 issues which prevent this happening on the Roku. 1) These are YouTube trailer links. 2) YouTube TOS states you must embed their specific YouTube player and it plays back their trailers. On the Roku you cannot ...embed another video player. ...launch another channel from within a channel. Since we can neither embed their player or launch into their YouTube app on Roku we cannot make use of these types of links in the Roku app therefore it does not show the trailer button when only links are shown. https://developer.roku.com/docs/developer-program/certification/certification.md https://docs.roku.com/published/developerdistribution/en/us Edited September 2, 2024 by speechles 1

pwhodges 2012 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Quote Your Application must provide a reasonable level of entertainment or functional value for end users. I was amused to see this as a requirement... Paul
Solution chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted September 2, 2024 Solution Posted September 2, 2024 I downloaded the trailer from YouTube and add the file in the same folder as the movie or TV series.then it will show up on Roku. Yes, time consuming but worth it, because YOU choose which trailer you want to use 1 1
codechurn 9 Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 Thanks for chiming in guys. I think I will check out YTrailers which should solve my problem. Kinds stinks that I must go this route, but having trailers is a nice feature.
chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Think of it this way...I have a huge horror collection... So regular trailer or YOU get the red band trailers...yes..red band
