Hi,

I tried to listen to a TV Show on my Windows Client and it used software transcoding and I'm trying to understand why. I don'T mind the transcoding on that client, I'm just trying to understand why Emby decided it was better to software transcode this?

Please help me find a reason why software transcode was choosen.

Attached is the log file for the transcode session.

Here is my transcoding parameters in Emby.

I think you need to look at your transcoding settings:

Quote

>>>>>>  FindVideoEncoder - MediaType: h264, UseHardwareCodecs: False, HWA-Mode: Advanced
Info    Checking: 'x264'
Info    Check successful - selecting 'x264'

>>>>>>  FindVideoDecoder - MediaType: hevc, UseHardwareCodecs: False, HWA-Mode: Advanced
Info    Checking: 'Automatic software decoder'
Info    Check successful - selecting 'Automatic software decoder'
Info    Tone Mapping would be desired, but software tone mapping is disabled

Since this is an HDR file what are the tone mapping settings set to? Did you enable hardware accelerated tone mapping?

Exactly like yours, but It's set to Hable instead of Mobius... I'll give Mobius a try though!

Edit : Just tested Mobius and it's doing the same; software transcode.

I think I have a weird problem now ... I just force a transcode of a 1080p hot hdr to 720p and it did it software again...

Edit : Well nevermind... I restarted my container and now transcoding works as expected. Weird, when nvidia card doesn't link to the container correctly the transcoding parameters doesn'T show it as available for transcode, but now it was showing but not working.

Thanks for your insight!

Mostly just wanted to make sure you had hardware tone mapping enabled. :)BTW I settled on Mobius because I was finding Hable to be too dark.
