How Emby choose the version to play

Hi,

I would like to confirm my understanding of how will proceed the Emby server when I will try ti watch a video file remotely. So, first of all I didn't put a limit for the Internet streaming bitrate here.

Please inform if there is another place in settings where I should to not limit the internet upload, I left all by default. So, I suppose all it's done here to not limit the speed.

Let's say that I created a folder (Movie 1) with the same movie inside, but different version of codec or quality.

Example:
Movie 1 - 1080hevc
Movie 1 - 1080h264
Movie 1 - 720

I try to play it remotely (for example from my tablet or using Google tv from another location).

If I understand well according to the download speed of my external device (client), upload speed of my server and the best option of supports codesc of my client (tablet, Google tv, etc.), Emby will choose automatically the best solution in order to play that movie?

For example, if the Internet speed (download for my client and upload for my server it's very good) and my Google tv can "understand" hevc, Emby will stream directly using no transcode, direct play. For the tablet, Emby can choose 720 version of the movie because my tablet can not "understand" hevc version. So, the server will avoid the tranascode.

Sorry for my vulgarized version of the post, but I would like to make sure that I understand the logic of how the server works.

I forgot to say that I also left the configurations as default: so transcoding is allowed here.

In theory: yes, it should choose the version which'd be played most efficiently on the client device, at the time. But it doesn't always work as intended, it has been known to misbehave on occasion, in certain scenarios.
