MWint 2 Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Hey Everyone, I have encountered a very strange bug today on the Emby server, I'm not sure if it was caused by some updates I have not kept an eye on when updates have been happening to say for sure. My subtitles are completely broken for some reason, out of nowhere in the middle of a media stream the subtitles stopped working for everything. the subtitles strangely "work" on Android if they already exist, it's the only place that I could get some subtitles working, but on the web, it will not load, no matter what, click off, then reactivate, change the subtitle if it has other, nothing work. strangely enough, the server will not change any indexing of subtitles, if I delete some, or add, I can refresh or scan the changes in subtitles will not get caught and will not be added/removed. I tried to add a new movie to see if there was some problem with the scan and it worked perfectly, got indexed right away, got all the names, etc, it was only the subtitles that were completely ignored if they were never there... even using the open subtitles plugin, I can search and download it, it goes to the folder but Emby never recognizes it. I truly don't know how to proceed, I have rolled back some snapshots from 2 days ago (the error started today so it should have worked) I have restarted, used the restore of the Emby server config, shut down, and powered up, deleted open subtitles plugin(just in case, who knows...). as this doesn't show any obvious error on the logs I don't know which one I should Attach here. and FYI, My System is a Truenas Core 13.0 Stable Running on an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, 64GB RAM, with the Jails on SSD and the data on an HDD Array, The Emby server is the Plugin of the Community tab emby-server-stable running on a jail 13.1-RELEASE-p9, and the version of the server is on 4.8.8.0. If someone has something to add to this or any questions I would answer as soon as possible. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Luke 42080 Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Hi there, we're happy to help. Quote My subtitles are completely broken for some reason, out of nowhere in the middle of a media stream the subtitles stopped working for everything. Let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
MWint 2 Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 (edited) Hey Luke, I was just about to fix the post missing the Logs because I was still looking for the error in the logs. I Have found in the logs Errors about FFMPEG on converting the Subtitles: ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libtasn1.so.6: Undefined symbol "strverscmp@FBSD_1.7" this gives a hint that maybe the jail has updated the packages but not the jail yet causing some libs compatibility. I find this relatable to the playback but I'm not sure if this is the reason for not indexing the subtitles. Thanks in advance for everything, Sorry for the missing logs. embyserver.txt embyserver-63858244125.txt hardware_detection-63858244128.txt Edited August 3, 2024 by MWint More Information added

Yep per other topics that is the case per that error. 1 hour ago, MWint said: I find this relatable to the playback but I'm not sure if this is the reason for not indexing the subtitles The issues shows ffmpeg unable to work with subtitle 2024-08-03 01:11:04.989 Error SubtitleEncoder: ProcessRun 'ffmpeg-subtitle_convert' Error Output: ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libtasn1.so.6: Undefined symbol "strverscmp@FBSD_1.7" System.Exception: System.Exception: ffmpeg subtitle conversion failed for /mnt/Storage/Movies/Puss in Boots The Last Wish/Puss in Boots The Last Wish.1080p.Pt-Br.srt
Solution MWint 2 Posted August 3, 2024 Author Solution Posted August 3, 2024 Happy2Play thanks for your reply. After some time with trial and error, I managed to get to a "fix" and a conclusion to what happened. it seems that the Emby jail for truenas Core is expecting version 13.2-RELEASE but truenas Core is only fit for 13.3-RELEASE right now, I could not fetch the Release 13.2 for some reason. when the update of the jail was triggered some libs were updated for the 13.2 release but the jail since truenas could not get 13.2 would not update, breaking the libs shown in the error, mainly FFmpeg, but not breaking completely the emby server. So it seems fine until it doesn't work with subtitles or other things that could be broken. I was able to rollback to a version using the older libs and server version4.8.3.0, but this means that the update for the jail is broken and could not be performed, as well as the new installation of the the plugin is asking for the missing 13.2-RELEASE as shown in the error "Error: 13.2-RELEASE was not found!". I truly don't know how many people are using Truenas, even less the Core version to Host Emby Server, but for now, I imagine if any of them use the update right now will break the Emby server and if they don't have Snapshots or don't seem to catch the error on time to still have some snapshots, they will not be able to install a clean plugin again, since it errors out asking for 13.2-RELEASE. Just pointing it out for some future problem that anyone could have to be related to. I don't know if it is worth renaming the post to something like a problem with updates on truenas or just closing this out, since this is "resolved" and has no further action related to this issue itself. Thanks for the help and all the developers for making this amazing app, I have been a host/user of it since early builds, and the progress has been amazing XD. 1
Luke 42080 Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Hi, thanks for following up ! Out of curiosity, do you plan to switch to TrueNAS Scale?
MWint 2 Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Hey Luke, sure happy to answer. I have tried 2 times already but the Scale to me was too unfinished and not that stable with some specific functions missing. Other thing that was a huge downside was the fact that the apt-get is disabled (even so is possible to enable it again). The docker manager was not that great too. The only thing that keeps me thinking about the scale is the GPU passthrough. I'm planing in the future get a GPU for my server specifically for emby if I get it, scale would be more appropriate. I think the last time I tried Scale was like almost 1 year ago. Just out of curiosity on my side, what you think about Scale and why the question?
MWint 2 Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Oh, another thing that I remembered that was a thing that didn't work for me was the smb share and the containers data not being compatible, so when I made the smb share to add movies etc to emby, it could not be mounted to emby as a direct storage like is possible on Core.

From our standpoint, Scale is linux based and that makes everything a whole lot easier, where the type of issue in this thread never happens in the first place.
MWint 2 Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 I can agree with you for sure, the Linux-based version I can imagine is much easier to develop and predict than freeBSD (being a developer myself). I would love to use the Linux version, but FreeBSD's stability is hard to match. Core has much more time being developed than Scale, considering Core is basically FreeNAS. Later I will try the Scale again at least in a Virtual Env to see how it's going, but the last thing that I described about SBM and Containers Storage not being compatible is a huge downside still. With scale gaining popularity on Emby side vs Core, are there any plans to stop or slow down the compatibility with FreeBSD or this is not a thing? 1

No plans yet. I think what is more likely to happen is that tools that we depend on will gradually stop supporting it, and then at some point that will cause something to break, and that might be the end of our FreeBsd package. But nothing like that has happened yet.
