ThomasPdt 4 Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Hello, Context: I have an LG TV OLED55A16LA. On this TV, I downloaded Emby for LG TV 1.0.43. But I also have a Chromecast with Google TV connected to the TV HDMI port on which I installed Emby for Android TV v 2.1.14g to compare both apps. I'd prefer using the Android TV app because it's faster and nicer than the LG app. I'm currently in trial period. Problem: In the Emby Android TV app, the Skip button does not appear. I made sure to change the settings of this app to "Show Skip button", but it has no effect. In the Emby LG app, it appears and I can skip the intro for that same episode. The episodes I tested have Intro and End chapters by the way (tested with ChaptersAPI) and it happens for another show as well. Specifications: Emby for LG TV 1.0.43 Emby for Android TV v 2.1.14g In Trial. (on a Chromecast with Google TV) Emby server (4.8.8.0), running in a docker container on a Windows 11 PC Question: Is this issue known? Is the Skip intro functionality not implemented yet in the Android TV app? Or is it because I'm in trial mode? But then why does it work on the LG app since I'm also in trial mode there? Let me know if I can share anything else that might help you troubleshoot the issue. Kind regards.

ThomasPdt 4 Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 (edited) Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Under "Settings > Playback > Intro Skipping". There I have three options: 1. None 2. Show "Skip intro" button 3. Skip intro automatically Before clicking on the "Intro Skipping", I can see that it is indeed set to "Show skip intro button". By the way, I just tested again on both apps before sending the logs, and now it's not working on the LG app anymore. When checking the chapters for the episode in the LG app, I don't see the Intro Start and Intro End chapters. When checking the chapters for the same episode in the Android TV app, I can see both Intro chapters like this: Chapter 1 at minute 0, Chapter 2 at minute 5, Intro Start at minute 5:05, Intro End at minute 6:05, Chapter 3, etc. I checked again the settings of my Shows library, I confirm that there is a scheduled task to look for Intro chapters/markers. And I know it finished scanning my library already because I've seen it finish at 100%. What can I do to help you figure this out? By the way, I've sent logs from the Emby Android TV app at 22:17 UTC+2. Edited July 30, 2024 by ThomasPdt Added Intro End chapter timestamp

Luke 42077 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
ThomasPdt 4 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) Hi, On the LG TV app store, I only have the one I already mentioned. On the Chromecast appstore (Play Store), I downloaded another one: Emby for Android (the one I had downloaded previously was Emby for Android TV). The skip intro showed the first time, then I tried again and it didn't work. The second time, the Intro chapters were not even there anymore in the chapters. It looks like it's not really an issue of the Skip button not showing, but more an issue of Intro Start and Intro End chapter detection (I'm sure they are there since it's the same episode I'm trying all the time and I saw them already but then they disappear). What do you mean by they disappear? actually, the first time it worked was on the Emby app for LG, not even on the Emby for Android or Android TV app. What I mean by 'they disappear' is when I start an episode, I don't see the Intro chapters anymore. The first time I tried, they were chapters for Intros, then I tried again and they were not there, just regular chapters with a number. The way I do it is just look at the Chapters when watching a video on the TV. Of all the three apps I tried, none of them was able to reliably show the Intro chapters or skip button. I have no idea why/how it worked the two times that it worked. It was just random, without me changing anything in the app or server settings.

ThomasPdt 4 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 What's the easiest way to do that ? I've never done this.
rbjtech 5284 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) As Emby have not implemented a way to view/edit the Intro markers () then may I suggest you install a 3rd party plugin called 'Chapter API'. It's in the Emby plugin catalogue. This will allow you to view (and edit if necessary) the detection markers. Note, on the Intro button and/or auto into skip - after it has run once per episode - it will not run a second time until you close that episode and re-open it. This is so you can go back and watch something that was possibly incorrectly 'skipped'. Edited July 31, 2024 by rbjtech

If what you are doing is skipping backwards and expecting to see the skip button again, that won't happen - by design.

In the Emby for Android TV app, I can see the Intro chapters. But I can't see them in the Emby for Android TV and Emby for LG apps, that's true. I have Chapters API installed already. And there also I can see all my episodes have Intro Start and Intro End chapters (although they are highlighted in red, not sure if this means anything?). How can I test what you're saying about the running only once per episode? I turned off the TV since this morning, when I came back home tonight, it still didn't work. How do I close an episode to test if it really works?

Sure - the AndroidTV and I believe the Roku App gives you the option to display them - it's very basic and simply inserts them regardless of the existing chapters. Unless they have changed it - showing intro start and intro end is just ugly. 41 minutes ago, ThomasPdt said: How can I test what you're saying about the running only once per episode? When you play this episode - Once it gets to 5:06 - it should either present a button or skip to 6:05 If you miss it - or scroll past 5:05 - then you simply need to back out and press play again. Once past 5:05/6:05 - you can't 'rewind' before this and expect the Intro button/skipintro to re-kick in again - that's what I'm saying. Just exit that episode and start again to check.

Intro Skipping is a Premiere feature of the Server, so the trial does not cover that. I think that may be the problem you're facing here, but I'll let one of the Devs comment further.

Ok, it would be nice to know indeed. But that doesn't explain why it worked a few times already. Or is it part of the trial, that it just shows it once or twice to show how it works? In my opinion, this should be part of the trial. How do they expect us to upgrade to Premiere if we cannot even fully test it?
