Downloaded Movies and TV shows won't play

I keep movies and TV shows on my iPhone pretty much all the time. When I travel, I may add/remove here or there, but I always have media on my phone.

I started a new trip on Sunday so I went in and added a couple more titles.

Everything has been fine - movies and TV worked no issues.  Once specific movie I've been watching on/off for the last several days.  Until tonight.

Now, I do what I always do:

 

1. start the app in airplane mode

2. select downloads

3. select movies

4. select the movie I want to watch (all of them are listed here)

5.  Nothing.  It's a blank screen.  It says movies in the upper left so I can go back a sceen but nothing else is displayed.

It doesn't matter what movie/tv show I select - always just a blank screen.

Any idea how I can fix this?  I'm 3 days into a >month long trip and all my emby media is unavailable now.

Just for further clarification, when I click on a TV show, it goes to the blank screen instead of to Seasons.

I have no idea what caused this, but connecting to the client to my server via VPN (and logging into the server) "fixed" the issue.  Not sure what that authentication did, but immediately everything worked.
