PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) I have recently switched to Emby to use the Live TV functionality and have gotten a reliable provider for TV. I was previously using Mullvad VPN but couldn't get a remote connection to Emby to work even through Mullvad split tunneling. So I have switched to AirVPN to take advantage of the ability to forward ports. I have set up AirVPN and set up the forwarded port as shown in the image, I have been assigned port 36283 and forwarded it to port 8096 and assigned DDNS address of emby.airdns.org and I have confirmed it is open as shown in the image below. I have set up my emby settings accordingly as shown in the images. Before, when I was using Mullvad, I couldn't even get a remote device to connect to the server. Now, with this setup, I have at least managed to gain connection to the server. However, now I cannot watch any of the channels, on a remote or local device. I get error 456 as shown in the image below. I have done a little googling on the topic and found some people that try to blame the issue on the firewall. I have strictly disabled all Windows Defender features entirely, as well as all firewall functionality on my router. All firewall/security related activity takes place on my Norton antivirus/firewall. As shown in the attached picture, I have also confirmed that Norton is allowing all traffic for Emby Server and I am unsure if there are any other settings that may be causing this error. I have also tried to forward the port assigned (36283) to the local port (8096) in my router but it tells me port 36283 is already assigned, and while it is not in my list of forwarded ports I can only assume something to do with the VPN has automatically done it for me, buuuut could be wrong. I would imagine it is forwarded properly otherwise I don't think I would be able to connect to the server at all. I have confirmed that with the VPN turned off I can watch channels locally just fine, and can connect to the server fine, but I do need the VPN enabled on my computer for other purposes. PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I am not inherently concerned about it at the moment, if anything it could give others the ability to help me troubleshoot. And as far as anything else skilled folk may be able to get access to there isn't much of anything valuable on here so have at it. I will change all of the ports and links accordingly once I get the problem solved, I already thought about this as I was creating the post
Neminem 1519 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Ok then post you logs from when you had the playback error.

PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 @jaycedkFor some extremely unknown reason I can now watch channels. I have absolutely no clue how but it just started working all of a sudden
Neminem 1519 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hmm the magic of computers Anyways nice to know you got it working
PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I will now change all of my ports and ddns link. I appreciate the help
PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 @jaycedk Scratch that. I switched ports over and changed my ddns link and it was working at first. Took 20 minutes or so and made a few more accounts for my family to use and was testing them out and now its throwing the same error again. Luke 42080 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 The iptv server is sending back a 456 error code. That might mean due to region locking. So basically the vpn is doing something with the request that the provider doesn’t like.
Solution PeterMacalister 3 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Solution Posted June 10, 2024 Solved the problem. The provider was rejecting any region outside of USA, changed VPN to a US server and it works fine. 1
