shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Searching the knowledgebase, I was unable to locate documentation for configuring custom DLNA profiles. The interface is somewhat enigmantic. Does this documentation exist or is it still in the works?

Luke 42080 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Hi, this is on our to do list to improve. Question. what would you like to create a profile for?
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 4, 2024 Author Posted June 4, 2024 A Philips 'smart TV' from a number of years ago (Model 55PFL5402/F7). It struggles with playback via DLNA in the default configuration. I've attached the Video section from the manual. What I really want to accomplish with a custom profile is to engage a transcode to a compatible format rather than failing to start playback.
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 5, 2024 Author Posted June 5, 2024 (edited) Here is some information I harvested from a log file with the server running in debug mode if that will help: 2024-06-04 16:51:29.813 Info Server: http/1.1 HEAD http://10.0.0.2/videos/7561888/original.mkv?DeviceProfileId=73a79816aaf147f8aa792a5cb3ffd40a&DeviceId=20e0a275a67ba7791f32f287f4c014fa&MediaSourceId=78161a2dd0b16c966c97b05a033d5408&PlaySessionId=e93c33c2f8174b3bbd6a8ce4eb6182cf&api_key=x_secret9_x. Luke 42080 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 OK so your first step is to create a profile and then update the Identification sections so that your new profile is used. Have you gotten that far?
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I have, and I know it has latched onto the profile properly because it stopped showing the generic 'DLNA' account library that I have set up. I did that as a validation step so I could tell at a glance. It's still not playing back with any reliability, but at least I've gotten that far.
Luke 42080 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 OK so what you need to do is remove formats from the direct play section and that will cause it to transcode. And let’s hope that it likes the transcoding format.
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 So, have no formats in direct play and define a transcoding format that complies with the chart from the manual?
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Alright, I'll give it a go when I get home. Might have to play around with it a bit because I don't know exactly what syntax the interface wants exactly to define containers and codecs. 1
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Some files are playing, others are showing up with a playtime of 00:00:00 and throw an error when playback is attempted. I'm attaching a truncated version of my log file starting when I began testing and the output profile that I configured. embyserver-log.txt
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 The file on the left does not play, the file on the right does.
Luke 42080 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Yea the nature of this is that it’s all trial and error to find options that the TV will be hair I’m happy with.
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 It just seems odd that some files play without a problem while others throw an error when all of them should be transcoding with the same settings since there are no direct play profiles set up. Do you have any recommendations of things I should try? The files that do play, do so reliably. The ones that don't, also do so reliably. All of the files on my server are HEVC MKV files, so that is a constant.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) Only thing I am really seeing in the log above it looks like sub-title extraction failed on an episode on a item trying to be played. But server and ffmpeg log for a specific example may provide more info. A guess is this is all subtitle related correct? Edited June 10, 2024 by Happy2Play
shadowtheimpure 12 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Looking over the 'success' and 'fail' files, the common factor appears to be .srt formatted subtitles. Is there a way to force them to be ignored in the DLNA profile? I'd rather it play and not display subtitles than to fail entirely.
