izzo540 4 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Hi all, I have what I feel might be an unusual bug i am bumping up against. I have a fire tv and have the Emby app and a local network of devices that use emby. For some reason my living room TV only is hanging on login and never finding the server. But it’s just spinning at load and not giving any error code or anything on the client side. on the server side I do think I have logs (attached) expressing the error the weirdest part is that if I just delete emby and reinstall it - it’ll connect on that device. So once I clear all the app data off the tv in question - and reinstall - it works.. but if I just come back to the tv after the app has closed, it has to be reinstalled to work again this is only happening recently and only on this device. All other devices when on same local network connect without issue. thanks all for help in advance. embyserver.txt
Luke 42078 Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
izzo540 4 Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 I can only use the one that is ‘Emby for Fire TV’ the other one is “unavailable” it’s funny you mention that - I had the same issue on my Sony Bravia and I used to just install and uninstall the app nightly. And one time I think I installed the Android one instead of the other - and it fixed it. I tried that here, but I was unable to download anything other than the Fire TV one, which worked up until about 2-3 days ago.
izzo540 4 Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 (edited) You can only download the Fire TV version on this device. The other one says 'Unavailable for Download' when I find it in the app store. pics attached Edited June 2, 2024 by izzo540

ebr 16184 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Are you able to sideload the APK for Amazon onto that device to see if it performs well?
izzo540 4 Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 I can certainly try, sounds a bit involved so prob an activity for tonight after work. Will play around and see what the story is. 1
izzo540 4 Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 How do I download from GitHub. I can’t seem to find a way to download using the link you gave me
izzo540 4 Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 Can someone just post APK here so I can try to download directly on TV without having to jump through GitHub hoops
Luke 42078 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Hi, the links are here: https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html
izzo540 4 Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 It looks like EBR wanted me to download one from GITHub and sideload it? Which one do I load onto my amazon fire TV from the list you just provided, luke?
Luke 42078 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 They are the same. The website points to the GitHub link.
izzo540 4 Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 Which would I download to sideload to an Insignia Fire TV
Solution izzo540 4 Posted June 4, 2024 Author Solution Posted June 4, 2024 Hey guys, this worked. The side loaded app corrected the issue. For everyone’s edification this started like 2-3 weeks ago on another device.. a Sony Bravia. However the Bravia let me download the second version of the app ‘emby’ vs ‘emby for android’ or vice versa . I can’t remember but what I do know is I accidentally had downloaded the other one and it fixed it on the Bravia. what I realized was for months i was using Apple TV on the current tv in question - never had that issue. But the native fire tv app, like the Bravia, has it. when I moved - a few weeks ago - I started using the native fire tv app on the fire tv and that’s when the condition presented itself there is a bug in a version of the app that caused this - it said invalid username and password when I let it spin on loading for a while - but there is no username or password that it was storing incorrectly and if it wasn’t it was from a previously successful login so there’s no way it was incorrect cause it was never re entered so basically once the app was fully closed the next login would fail on bad credentials but it would never error out except for the one time I saw it flash that error yesterday. clearing the app data through fire tv or an uninstall install on the Bravia always fixed it. And the password or pin was always fine upon fresh install or clear app that being said - the side loaded version fixed the issue. And also introduced me to side loading which is awesome.

izzo540 4 Posted June 27, 2024 Author Posted June 27, 2024 Checking back here after some prolonged use. This version works excellent and fixed all issues.
izzo540 4 Posted June 27, 2024 Author Posted June 27, 2024 It also appears to have fixed an issue with the live TV feed. When the guide doesn’t have data it puts the channel lower. So the guide no longer has big gaps from my IPTV. love this app. Very happy with the improvement. 1
