wowbobwow 1 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Hi all, I'm a generally-happy Emby Premiere subscriber - this app has been great for the most part, and a big improvement over super-buggy Plex. HOWEVER. I recently added Battlestar Galactica to my Emby library. As you may know, "BSG" is a complicated franchise, with content in various categories: The 2-episode miniseries from 2003 The 4-season main series which began in 2004 A 1-season prequel series ("Caprica") At least two TV movies that I know of ("Razor" and "Blood & Chrome") Various "webisodes" that aired throughout TONS of extras - deleted scenes, behind the scenes, mini-documentaries, etc.) As of now, I'm in a crazy battle with Emby, just trying to get it to parse ANY of this stuff correctly. The list of problems is pretty long, but these are the main issues I'm struggling with: I've added the miniseries to my TV Shows folder in a folder named "Battlestar Galactica Miniseries (2003)," and the filenames within are "Battlestar Galactica Miniseries 2003 S01E01 [imdb=tt0314979].mkv" and "Battlestar Galactica Miniseries 2003 S01E02 [imdb=tt0314979].mkv" - however, Emby ignores these files entirely and they never show up in my list of shows or seasons or anything I tried turning off the feature which combines shows from multiple folders into one entry, and that seemed to help, except the Miniseries was treated like it was the first two episodes of the main series, complete with incorrect art, incorrect titles, etc., and no amount of prodding it with the correct IMDB or TVDB ID codes would convince it otherwise Also, the Season entries for the "main" series are cluttered with random entries from the Extras folder, and I cannot get it to stop doing this I'm straight up losing my mind here. Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks!

kikinjo 281 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Just go to thetvdb.com and use folder names as titles on thetvdb.com https://thetvdb.com/search?query=Battlestar+Galactica You are naming folders wrong, for example Battlestar Galactica Miniseries (2003) does not exists, it should be Battlestar Galactica (2003) 1

You achieve peace of mind by examining how TVDB (or TMDB if you prefer) organises the franchise, and naming your files accordingly. Note that there may be alternative organisations even within TVDB - e.g. airing order, dvd order, absolute order - and if you choose to use a different order from the first you can tell Emby to use it (at least for those three - some series now have other alternate orders, but Emby still haven't got around to supporting them - BOO! ). I also have BSG setup in my library in this format and emby recognizes everything without issue. Caprica is also a separate show, so don't try to mush the 2 together.

I solved my issues by replicating your folder naming system, and by just removing all the weird extra stuff entirely. Even after correcting the folder names and file names, the presence of all the oddball extra content in the "Extras" folder seemed to break everything no matter what I did. Only by removing that folder from Emby's domain did things start working properly for the miniseries episodes + four seasons of normal episodes. I did use the handy FileBot app to correct the filenames of (nearly) all my BSG content, which definitely helped with getting the miniseries and mainline episodes to be recognized, but yeah, nothing I've tried at all has worked with the extra content, and even attempting to include it weirdly breaks everything else, so I'm just not gonna worry about it. Thanks for your helpful info and (especially) screenshots! 1

Are those extras or specials? Care to share some specific examples with filefolder structure/naming used? 22 minutes ago, wowbobwow said: nothing I've tried at all has worked with the extra content, and even attempting to include it weirdly breaks everything else As said, without specific examples it'd be hard for anyone to guess where the issue lies.
mydefposse 3 Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 (edited) I did this a slightly different way, I unticked TVDB and only used TMDB so that the 2003 miniseries came up as it's own show with S01E01 and S01E02 and the 2004 as it's own show with 4 Seasons. Also had to untick "merge shows across different folders" setting in library. This way all my extra content from the 2004 show added correctly as specials. Edited May 19, 2024 by mydefposse
oceanclub 12 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I've added the mini series as the following folder: Battlestar Galactica (2003) [imdbid=tt0314979] ...in line with the IMDB entry: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314979/reference/ Even then, the miniseries gets named as some Chinese series called "The Shiny Group"??

Are you using a "TV shows" folder? That is the kind of folder structure that works best for miniseries. Also is Battlestar offered as a choice when you right click on the series and choose "identify?" If "identify" works then you are good to go. If it does not then the exact folder structure will be needed including the actual names of the files and folders will be needed as well as the exact folder structure and the exact names of any and all sub folders. FWIW: I have Battlestar (both of the miniseries and all episodes from both series and they are identified fine. The naming I use for the most recent Battlestar is: Under my TV library: Battlestar Galactica (2003) --------- Season 00 --------- Season 01 and so on The miniseries is actually under Season 00 as Battlestar Galactica - s00e01e02e03 - Battlestar Galactica The Miniseries The parts are combined into one file but I think it will work with e01, e02, e03 under Season 00 The older battlestar is: Battlestar Galactica (1978) ------- Season 01 The three mini series parts are Battlestar Galactica - s01e01 - Saga of a Star World Battlestar Galactica - s01e02 Battlestar Galactica - s01e03 I have combined the original mini series into one file so I actually have only: Battlestar Galactica - s01e02e03 - Saga of a Star World . . Battlestar Galactica - s01e04 - The Lost Planet of the Gods . and so on for the rest of the original series. Edited December 3, 2024 by Gilgamesh_48 incomplete first post
