How do I override a tv series parental rating?

Hey guys, I'm looking to tweak the ratings of some of my content and I've successfully done so with mixed media content via the following nfo files.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
<movie>
  <mpaa>G</mpaa>
</movie>

But I'm not able to crack the code for tv series. It would be great if I just need one nfo for the entire series but I'm ok with a file for each episode as well. I tried the following for each episode and it didn't work :(

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
<episodedetails>
  <mpaa>G</mpaa>
</episodedetails>

Let me know and thanks!

That is the purpose of Custom Rating field.

<customrating>TV-PG</customrating>

As for TV episode is inherited from Show level if not present.  But what you have above is correct for episodes if you wish.

Otherwise tvshow.nfo

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<tvshow>
  <mpaa>G</mpaa>
</tvshow>

Hi.  There is a "Custom Rating" field in the metadata manager that you can use if you truly want to override for the purposes of parental control.

It appears that if an episode has it's own parental rating, then the series-level custom rating is not obeyed.

For example:

User parental control is to allow TV-PG

Show parental rating is TV-PG

Show custom rating is TV-14

S01E01 parental rating is TV-PG

S01E02 parental rating is TV-14

S01E03 parental rating is blank

=== User is unable to see the show in shows list, but is able to find E01 in search

Correct episode normally inherits from Series but if they have their own values set Series will no override it.

@Lukehas this changed, and episodes write their own mpaa now?

But this probably should be its own topic.

They always have. It’s just blank and majority of the time to inherit from the series.

Got it as all the ones I checked it was written.

So with TV custom rating can be tedious as all episodes will remain searchable as mentioned above as they do not inherit custom Show rating.  So one would have to apply custom rating to every episode or move written rating from every episode.  As parental controls applies to each item.

Wrote it up in a new topic as requested.

But in the end custom rating will still not work via Series level as all episodes already have set rating.  So episode level Custom rating has to be applies.  Per other topic dev has to decide on to override episode level from Series level.

Yep, hence the script and control through TV show rating being sure that it'll apply to all episodes as well as individual ratings overwritten.

But the question is custom ratings.  But I guess if you wish to overwrite the actual rating for all then yes the script should work but are really two different scenarios.
