Subs dont play for some anime/tv shows.

Switched over to Emby form plex/jellyfin and notice subs dont always play on devices. 

On my phone they play just fine, and most of the time on my nvidia shield but on web browser it is huge hit or miss. 
When I play the file usually with media player classic no issues and subs show. 

Its not transcoding its showing playing direct:

Since its  all direct play i dont see any logs in transcoding with time stamp as above. 

Are there client logs? web logs for this? As i dont see why i wont  play the subs on web browsers but does on all devices "android phone/shield (android)"

The beta is better with burning-in subtitles than the current release of the server.  It is expected to become current in the next few weeks.  If you want to try the beta, just remember that you can't simply go back to the release without a reinstall - so it might be best for you to set up an installation of the beta using the same files, or a sample (it can be on the same machine, but with the ports it uses changed) to try it out.

Hi All,

Sorry about delay as IT world suppose to be slow but this season it sucks  hard core ahhhhhhhhh.

Any way back to the mains  of the issues. 

Test:  Playing anime "The 100 Girlfriends" with SUBS as seen below:

Hi, when embedded .ass subtitles are direct played in the browser, they get extracted on the fly and then sent to the browser for client-side subtitle rendering.

When you're not seeing subtitles, what's probably happening is that this extraction is taking a long time in your environment. Depending on the performance of your server machine as well as the disk I/O performance of drive the video is on, it's not always instantaneous.

Can you try external .ass for comparison purposes?

Let me test  (find one with external ass)that and here are my pc specs when watching a show and its not taxed. I also let the show sit on paused for 10min and play and wait and then play and then let it play through the entire show and subs NEVER show up..

Well tested Mob Psycho 100 and using embedded SUB it never plays but if i download external it works just fine. 

Which aligns with what you are saying i need more perf.. might be time to upgrade to Ryzen 5800h mini pc.. hmmmmmm

Still find it off if i turn off this option i cant play the video:

And yes if i switched to the downloaded subs in this testing of  disabling allow  sub on the fly it works no issues. 

So it seems when embedded subs are being played with option enabled plays but no  Subs (going to test and install emby on my 7900x build and see if perf is the issue)

well results from my main pc (7900x) it  loaded  instantly with the subs all using a netowrk share  to this same server.... dont really  want to host on my  gaming rig.. might need to upgrade  my DC/Emby/sonarr/radarr/IIS to something newer (more horse power)

If i go mini pc might need to go intel since transcoding on AMD is dead.  Hmmmmm thoughts i have

still curious when the option "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly"  is disabled it cant play..

The time that it takes to extract embedded subtitles is more dependent on disk I/O performance of the media storage than it is CPU. So throwing a faster cpu at it might not have much of an impact, just FYI.

As a test, if you disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings, how does that compare?
