Emby cannot find a series after migrating it to a new drive

Hi All,

I have migrated a series to a new drive. the naming is exactly the same as before but for some reason the emby server is no longer finding the files. i have tried the following

  1. moving the folder out of the TV folder then rescanning and moving it back and rescanning again.
  2. i moved the series back to the Origional drive using the same steams as about scan before and after
  3. i have deleted the folder and tried again. (The series folder not the parent TV folder.)

My server is setup on a linux debian system.

Here is an example of the folder structure

/TV/Series Name/The Block/The Block - S01E01 - House Decider Challenge HDTV-720p.mkv

I would greatly appreciate any assistance as i am quite stuck on what to do next. also Is there any method to manually add a series ?

Hi.  Was that a typo?  As, in that example, the "Series Name" is "The Block".  It isn't duplicated, right?

Server log?

Hi Sorry yes it is supposed to be like this. i wasn't going to put the name in and then decided last minute just to add it for clarity

/TV/The Block/The Block - S01E01 - House Decider Challenge HDTV-720p.mkv

Hi, what do you mean by not finding the files? Have you completed a full library scan?

Hi yesi have done a full scan multiple times and the shows do not show in emby

Are you sure that Emby has all necessary permissions on the series folder and its contents?  The server log (which you've already been asked for) should tell us things like that.

Hi, yes i can confirm that Emby has all the required permissions. i have attached the latest log i ran a full scan before downloading the log.

Hmm.  There's no reference to your series there.

I wonder if this is the inotify issue:

Hi il try see if i can test this. would this occur on ubuntu also and is there a way i can check to see if this is occurring without implementing the fixes. i see in the link they get an error

System.IO.IOException: System.IO.IOException: The configured user limit (8192) on the number of inotify watches has been reached

would this show in emby's logs or somewhere else ?  all my other shows are detected fine its only this one and only since i moved it.

That error is not in the log, so I may be wrong.  The log shows library monitoring being turned off before the scan and on after.   The series "Las Vegas" is being seen (and there is a problem with the file for s03e10).

I don't know enough about what this should look like in the log to comment further - sorry.

is it possible that there is a problem in the database and if so is there no method for me to delete the entry for the block in the database ?

Hi, any suggestions on how to resolve this ?

Can we see your complete folder structure? Are you able to find the episode using search?

So i did a test with Plex just to see if its the files and Plex picked up the files fine so it is definitely Emby having the issue. Not that i want to usePlex just testing

The only think that comes to mind is that it has already been merged with some other series so your latest scan before posting log wouldn't show anything. What you can try is:

1. Remove "The Block" series folder from your TV shows root

2. Run Scan media library scheduled task

3. Rename series folder to "The Block (2003) [tvdbid=74768]"

4. Put it back in TV shows root

5. Run Scan media library scheduled task

(6. Post server log if it didn't appear).

Ok so i did these steps and something weird happened, it picked up the series but the images were from a different series to i did a refresh on the meta data and it corrected it self. so it does look like it was some sort of conflict. what could have caused this and should we not have some sort of series editor so that we can manually fix this like sonarr's series editor ?

Posted (edited)

Well you can set sonarr to set this in the folder naming [tvdbid=xxxxxxx]

You likely have saving artwork into media folders enabled, and as said:

So you've had that series images stored with media and local metadata/artwork always takes precedence.

Yep, that's the correct procedure.

what could have caused this

It's either the order of results returned from provider on the initial query OR some other already existing series with similar name; since "The Block" doesnt assist much in pinpointing when there are multiple possible results, adding (at least) Year and (preferably) ProviderID to series folder name goes a way toward eliminating misidentification.
