Hi,

I am currently running emby as a docker in a synology nas running swag as a frontend server.  Frontend is running Currently, I am running the server under a duckdns.org dynamic dns domain name but my workplace blocks this name because it is a dynamic dns.  So I would like to register an alternative dns name like myembyserver.com or something like that.  Anybody know how to do this?

If you are registering a proper domain anyway - then you would just need to create a 'C-Name' DNS record that points to your DDNS name.

So if you registered a domain called pugster.com

You could then create a C-Name record - called emby(.pugster.com) - which you would point at your DDNS name (yourname.duckdns.org)

Then, whenever you used emby.pugster.com - it would use the DDNS IP.

The domain provider may even have their own DDNS service - which would eliminate the need to use a 3rd party.   You could then likely use pugster.com without the need for a subdomain.

Thanks for the reply.  I thought about a cname but I don't think it will fix the issue about blocking the dns name.  cname redirects to yourname.duckdns.org which is blocked at work.

I also wouldn't suggest putting emby in the domain name as google may misinterpret it and think you're trying to impersonate us and mark your site as deceptive.

Maybe media instead of emby. Or mediaserver (although that's longer).

Probably advisable, but I don't think that is the reason for the flagging - as I have emby in my fqdn and I haven't been flagged once ... ? 🤔

We would still prefer you not use our name in your url.  Thanks.

The your only option is to use a domain provider with DDNS services.  If it's https, then you'll need to use a name, but if http - then it will also work via the IP address.   It's possible your work are blocking via port ?

Thanks.  The ip address doesn't work.  Guess it is a lost cause for me.  Thanks for everybody who replied.

Why doesn't the ip address work?
