I recorded a movie but Emby thinks it's a series. How do I convert it?

Title. Trying to identify it but it obviously only searches for series so it's not finding the correct thing.

Use the all of the fields in the IDENTIFY function:

Emby should then be able to find it.

I'm not sure that's going to work.  Identify looks to match an item with metadata but your issue is actually more basic.  It is being detected as the wrong type of item and identify cannot fix that I don't think.

Once again, we're going to need to see the specific example to know what could be done.

Move it to a movie library?

I separate series and movie recordings, and when movies that are part of a documentary series (for instance) get classified as a series, I move them to the movie library and rename them as necessary.

@crusher11What is the movie?

Not sure why it would matter or what @ebrthinks he could glean from an example given I've quite clearly explained the situation, but it's "John Farnham: Finding the Voice."

I only have the one Recordings library, and I'd like to keep it there.

The TMDB ID is 1071647.

Enter that into then TMDB ID filed of the IDENTIFY function, and only that, and it should be found, as it was on my Emby server.

We try to explain this every single time...  By seeing the exact file in its exact location etc we can offer more help.  But PW probably has the best answer here anyway so I'd just do that.

But it's not about the specifics of the file. It's just been identified as a TV series instead of a movie, so Emby is looking in the wrong place to identify it.

This really seems like something that should have an easy fix available. And no, pw's solution doesn't work because it would require moving it out of my recordings and I don't want my recordings mixed up with things I have on disc.

It absolutely is but you never believe that we know what we're talking about and, for some reason, consistently refuse to provide specifics.  In that case, there is just limited help we can give.

Because it was ingested as the wrong type which is directly related to how it is named and where it lies within your file/folder structure.

It was a recording. It was named by Emby. Emby created the folder structure. So no, it's not to do with that at all, Emby must have decided it was a series in order to create a series's folder structure for it in the first place.

This is why I specify different folders for recordings of series and movies.  When this happens (and IME it's not uncommon) I can just move the file to the right place, but still as a recording.

Also, presumably Emby created a series layout because that's what the guide specified.

Right, it's faulty guide data, but that's nothing I have the power to fix. And given that

there really ought to be a fix for it within the Emby UI.

I've gone in and just renamed the file and folder, and deleted all the NFOs and artwork, hopefully that works, but it really should be doable without needing access to the file system.

How did the files get named?

Again, you refuse to supply specifics.  I'm sorry but I don't understand why you insist on making it harder for us to try and help you.  Regardless of how the file was created or named, without us knowing the exact situation, we can't do anything.

Because the specifics are irrelevant.

Record an episode of a TV series. Any episode, any series. Doesn't matter what you record, as long as it's an episode and not a movie.

Now, with that recording finished, try and convince Emby to treat it as a movie.

If there was a process for this that wasn't working, the specifics would matter. But it's functionality Emby simply does not have.

It has already been established that Emby does not have the functionality required to resolve my issue. No amount of further specifics will alter that.

Well tbh, I have read dosens of issues posted by you.

And you insists on not helping them, help you.

Its ok, that you Bi"#h and whine, about it.

Is on you.

But its getting tiresome.

And by my guessing, no users is going to help you, because they can.

But just, by now know you.

FWIW this worked, and it scanned in as a movie the second time around. But there remains no way to do this within the Emby UI.

They are quite relevant, and we are happy to look into this further if you can provide this information. Thanks.
