No navigation layer when using TightVNC?

We have encountered an odd issue and I can't find a solution for it in searches. We have the Emby Server and our file server, both set up to connect via TightVNC. On both of those systems, if you go to the Emby home screen, there are no left and right arrows, to navigate the sections. But if you view Emby from any non virtual desktop, like our laptops or tablets, it works just fine.

It doesn't seem to matter what browser either. It was working just fine, but all of a sudden the overlay just vanished. It didn't come back after a reboot either.
