Do you have to pay to watch on an extended network?

My computer (the movie server with Emby) is connected to my router.  My TV is on the other side of the house, and it's connected to a router extender, which is connected to the router for my PC.  Hope that makes sense... When I open Emby on my TV, it connects to the PC without using the internet, but it still asks me to purchase Emby when I try to watch anything.

Is this normal?  I have another TV connected directly to my router, and it doesn't require payment.

Bearing in mind I almost definitely don't know what I'm talking about...I don't think you have to pay for the extended network bit. I think it might depend more on the exact app or device you're using to watch items on.

Unless they happen to be identical, in which case, no idea.

The browser client is free, but most other clients require either a one-time purchase (after which they can connect to any server), or to be connecting to a server with Premiere.  An app purchase (called "unlock") can be used for multiple copies from the same app store.

Hi.  Does that TV have access to the internet?  If the app requires Premiere, it will need access to the internet to validate.

You might be right.  The TV that works for free is using a roku.  The TV across the house (on the extended network) is a smart TV without a roku.  So maybe the TV app requires a subscription?

I think you mean, the PC Server is free, but most clients require a subscription?  It seems like the Roku client is free for streaming, but smart TV apps require a premium subscription.  Is that correct?

Yes the TV has internet access, but all the streaming is being done through my home network.  My smart TV is across the house, and it's connected to a network extender, but it wants me to pay a monthly subscription.

The basic server is free; but some facilities (e.g. hardware transcoding, live TV, and many smaller features) require Premium.

To connect to a server without Premium, many clients require to be paid for - but not the web client, Roku, Apple TV, or LG or Samsung TV clients.  If your TV requires an Android or Android TV client, then that is not free.  However, note that:

When connecting to a server with Premium, all clients can be used for free.

More detailed information is in the Premium Feature Matrix which I linked above.
