Guest Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Hello: For some reason every so often I find a video file that stutters when played via Emby. The playback mode is direct but the video feed is yo-yo-ing/stuttering while playing. Audio is unaffected, and despite the weird stuttering effect the media plays at real speed. If I play the same file directly with VLC on the same machine that's hosting Emby it plays fine. If I play it through Emby (Web browser) on the same machine it stutters. Related, if I play the same media via the Roku app it stutters and plays very slowly. Host: Windows 10, current version of Emby server, GTX 1660 Media (most recent example): 1080p HEVC, 2 mbps, 10 bit Thoughts? Thanks!
Guest Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Just found another, also 1080p HEVC, 2 mbps, 10 bit
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 What the devs will want to see to help you is the server log covering the time when you were playing these. Paul
Guest Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Thanks @pwhodges. So I have obtained the relevant video files in a manner that is illegal in the jurisdiction within which I reside. Should I include all of the server log information per the article you linked or sanitize it in some fashion?
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Your IP is already anonymised by default. If you think the file names unambiguously point to their origin, I guess you could do a global change to alter that, but I don't think anyone bothers... I think you can PM the logs to Luke as well, so they don't appear publicly. Paul
Guest Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 (edited) Log attached. Since it's direct play there's no ffmpeg information. I can post a link to the torrent to obtain the media if needed. Edited April 22, 2023 by andrewds Removed unnecessary and useless log file
Guest Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 More experimentation makes it appear that all 1080p HEVC, 10 bit videos are affected.
Guest Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 I have been checking dozens of files and they are all this media format and encoding. Has anyone else encountered this?
Solution pwhodges 2012 Posted April 22, 2023 Solution Posted April 22, 2023 I think the devs will prefer to see the whole log, not just 20 secs. The start has info about your setup, in particular, and they have tools designed to read the logs much more easily than we can (and straight from the forum, I believe). A good proportion of my library is 1080p HEVC 10bit - that's not a problematic format in general (AVC 10bit is another matter, but fortunately that's very rare - old anime files, mainly). Paul
Guest Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 The issue is one of: 1) There is a problem with the file format or encoding; 2) There is a problem with the video card drivers; 3) There is a problem with the video card hardware; 4) There is a problem with the operating system; or 5) There is a problem with Emby server. Transcoding all of the video files to something eliminates the stuttering. If I discover anything more useful I will share it. It ideally not be an encounter that is wildly intrusive, publicly visible, and criminally self-incriminating (though that's probably just me).
Luke 42078 Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 If you're playing in the web app, then some have improved this by toggling browser hardware acceleration options.
