pingrobb 2 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) Hi All, Since I switched from Plex to Emby about 5 years ago (rough guess), the metadata for "Batman: The Animated Series" has been displaying in the wrong order. I ripped the episodes from DVDs that I own, and numbered them accordingly. This seemed to work fine in Plex, but in Emby, the episodes have mismatched metadata, and the metadata is in the wrong order. In the Emby apps (Web and Android TV are the ones I use), S01E01 is listed as "The Cat and the Claw (1)", but when I play S01E01, the title card (in the video itself) indicates that it is "On Leather Wings". After further investigation, I found that the order of the episodes on the DVD does not match the order in which the episodes aired, and the best solution would be to change "Display order" from "Aired" to "DVD" in [Hamburger Menu] > Metadata Editor > [Library Name] > Batman The Animated Series. Before attempting to change this setting, I updated my Emby Media Server from 4.0.2.0 to 4.7.11.0, as I believed an out-of-date server might have problems communicating with TheTVDB. However, whenever I attempt to change this setting and click "save", the change does not stick. When I navigate away from this screen in the metadata editor, then go back to it again, I find that "Display order" still says "Aired". It seems that Emby Server is not recognizing that I changed this setting, or has automatically reverted it back. Please help me figure out how to fix this so that I can enjoy watching Batman without having to re-name every single episode which I have painstakingly ripped, named, and uploaded to the server. I am running version 4.7.11.0 of Emby Media Server for Linux. My operating system is Ubuntu, and my architecture is amd64. Edited April 17, 2023 by pingrobb
GrimReaper 4739 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Once you change Display order, you need to Refresh Metadata.

Is there any way to check the progress of the metadata refresh? I just tried that, and I can see that the primary images for each season have changed (I had set custom ones before), but the episode order remains the same.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Is TVDB you top preferred library meta-provider? Post server log.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Don't follow but yes TVDB is required. Change display order refresh w/replace images

GrimReaper 4739 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 How are your files named and organized? TVDB lists only 3 seasons for DVD Order: https://thetvdb.com/series/batman-the-animated-series#seasons so unclear why do you have bunch of Season 4 episodes, as in Aired order? There's actually a fourth volume (season) in the DVD collection. It is here: https://www.amazon.com/Batman-Animated-Comics-Classic-Collection/dp/B000B7QCHC Not sure why Volume 4 is not listed in TheTVDB, but I can put those titles in manually if I absolutely need to.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Overal TVDB makes their own rules so there are going to be conflicts. But your specific issues with episode 1 should not be a issue as shown above as I can make order change. But media still needs to reflects what it actually is. The DVD order contains the original 3-season DVD order. The BluRay order contains the new 2-season order. Season 3 contained on the latest BluRay Release is part of another series https://thetvdb.com/series/the-new-batman-adventures">The New Batman Adventures and will not be added to this series, regardless of how both shows are released on BluRay. As this series originated in North America alternate orders will only reflect North American DVD/BluRay releases.

I'm not sure if the Season 4 thing is relevant to this specific problem since the setting itself keeps mysteriously changing back to "Aired" even after refreshing metadata. I'm just answering GrimReaper's question to ensure they have all the information they could possibly need.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Looks like that disc fall under split series. So there is going to be conflict with these episodes as they are a different show. This is the order i get when selecting DVD order Batman: The Animated Series - DVD - Season 1 - TheTVDB.com If these are mixed then all episode outside the range to provider data will protentially get no data or wrong data.
pingrobb 2 Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 Another thing: when I go to the series (on web), click "Edit Metadata", then change "Display order" from "Aired" to "DVD" and click "Save", a message appears at the bottom of the screen that says "Item Saved". However, when I click "Edit Metadata" again, the "Display Order" still says "Aired", even though it should say "DVD". It's like the setting has instantly reverted itself back to "Aired", or the change hasn't taken effect at all.

I'm sad, I'm tired, and I just want to watch some Batman before I go to bed.

Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 17, 2023 Solution Posted April 17, 2023 Do you write nfo files? If so can you post the content of the tvshow.nfo. You can try and delete its content and Refresh the Series. You, sir, are a genius! After performing an ls of the folder you mentioned, I remembered that I had been using .nfo files (stored alongside the video files themselves) to store the metadata for my Movies and TV shows. I did this because I thought this would make it easier to recover metadata later in case of a server failure, or migrate everything (including metadata) to another platform if necessary. I had "Nfo" checked under "Metadata Readers". Unchecking this and changing the setting one more time solved the problem. I apologize for missing something that probably should've been obvious to me. Will be deleting the .Nfo files from the Batman The Animated Series folder before turning the Nfo reader back on. Thank y'all so much for baring with me and helping me out! Hope y'all have a good night!
