handspiker2 6 Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Hi, I'm having an issue where playing any AV1 encoded video on the Android client causes the device to reboot. The server tries to direct play the file. Opening the the same file in VLC or MPV on the same device, it works as intended. If the video is transcoded it, it works fine. Looking in /Android/data/com.mb.android/files, there are no logs for me to provide, so I have attached the server log. However, it looks like the server believes it to be playing fine. Phone: Pixel 4a (5G) Android version: 13 Emby App: 3.2.92 Emby Server: 4.7.11.0 embyserver.txt embyserver (debug).txt
handspiker2 6 Posted January 31, 2023 Author Posted January 31, 2023 Any ideas what I could do? Anyway to force Emby to always transcode AV1? Maybe remove it from the device's list of supported codecs?

After seeing your response, I tried to make some test files to try help narrow the issue. However the issue is no longer happening. Tested with both 8 and10 bit AV1 files. Emby versions are the same still. The only difference I can find is a android security patch on February 5th which seems to patch a race condition in a video buffer. My issue may have been an edge case somewhere. Still weird that only Emby was triggering it and seemed to happen with any AV1 file, but seems to be working fine now. 1
