bungee91 136 Posted Tuesday at 01:11 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:11 AM I'm disgusted that's it's been 3.5 years since I started this thread and we're still here, waiting, unknowing when this is coming. Beta cycles have been far too long. Does someone on the team not understand that this project has far too many clients/distros to support, that this kind of inability to make actual enhancements is severely hampered? Seriously... I'm sorry but, align your resources. Don't assume you can have as many variations as you do, and figure out how to move forward for a better experience for the majority of your current users than being stuck in the bug fix, everything on hold experience that you're currently putting out. Android for example is a major user base, but those users (including me), still have no idea when or how you're moving the apps forward. ATV should continue to live on forever, because, well... It's STILL better on a Tv interface than the primary Android app. I'll stop ranting. It just shouldn't take 5 years for a pretty much completed server end enhancement to see the light of day. Shameful. 3

We had perfectly well designed recorded tv screen with all sorts of options now we have the new garbage view without any options accross all apps. So not only that emby is not going forward its going backwards. In beta they are testing modifications of views for home screen but for recorded tv introduced the horrendous useless view that is a pain in arse to use all the series thumbnails are gone and we have thumbnails of the actual recordings which most of the time its an advert. they dropped a major ball on this one they could have had thousands of new users from wmc community if this was released 3 or 4 years ago I agree but if they still made a sweet product now I think people would come here for it. Honestly jelly almost does a better job for live TV than emby. And that's free... 1
denz 511 Posted Wednesday at 09:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 09:22 AM Its a shame softworkz must be constrained that he can’t give the work to an opensource project that will appreciate his work however if he was paid for it then he cant do much about it which is probably the case. If they released this 3 years ago even in alpha they could have the whole wmc community here
softworkz 5324 Posted Wednesday at 10:21 AM Posted Wednesday at 10:21 AM I'm always and forever on the Emby side and dedicated to the success of Emby As such, I have no interest in contributing to the success of competitors, and things like publishing as open-source in any form has never even been a thought. For the timeline of TVnext, I can only refer to what @ebris saying. When it's about to start, applications will be here: https://beta.emby.media/ 2 1
scb99 251 Posted Wednesday at 10:56 AM Posted Wednesday at 10:56 AM One thought I have on this topic, is that I have the impression from the outside that the project management of Emby got a lot better since a couple of years ago, with deliverables and priorities for each beta cycle clearly set (even though we're not told). That means with tvnext not coming yet it's an active decision about priorities that was taken in the team and not just some random thing, which means that for better or worse we can't change it.
js28194 69 Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM Hello, I'm sure if I am able to go through 29 pages of this thread. Can someone give me a quick snippet/link to what TVNext is? I've looked on the search engines, but the first link is very simplified Chinese, so I'm unsure of what I'm missing out. Thanks!

daldana 136 Posted Wednesday at 08:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:23 PM I have stopped hoping for any change in the status of TVNext ever being released after I realized that Emby management holds Live TV (and it's users) in very low regard. @ebreven stated, earlier in this thread, TVNext was completed years ago, but was not implemented and now it needs to be re-done because it's not compatible with the current version of Emby. A totally wasted product! 2

arrbee99 1865 Posted Wednesday at 10:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:31 PM Now it just needs a user base of more than one... 5

Is this a service? Is this supposed to be a plugin? I guess what problem does this thing solve? I promise you I'm not and idiot and not discounting your need or want for this on Wednesday evenings. I have been using NextPVR forever so I I don't know what need this fills. Maybe I should open a separate thread? Edited Wednesday at 10:48 PM by js28194

You won't need to set stuff up in NextPVR or some Linux equivalent. Talking to the tuner, lnb settings, finding channels, sorting, whatever, all in one place. And hopefully, if we're really really lucky, faster tuning.
daldana 136 Posted yesterday at 12:47 AM Posted yesterday at 12:47 AM (edited) @softworkz, So it's amazing what kind of information we users get from Emby mgmt! According to @ebr, in January, he made it seem like it would be a large undertaking... 2 hours ago, softworkz said: 4 hours ago, daldana said: TVNext was completed years ago, but was not implemented and now it needs to be re-done because it's not compatible with the current version of Emby I had it running a few weeks ago. I don't want to taint this, but with the "Dominance of Lnux" as the reliable backend for servers and everything, 60%+ MS Azure servers are now running Linux (MS has recently released Azure Linux 4 Preview) and your recent experience with Linux beta... What are your thoughts about the alpha/beta for this? (still willing to test this in a winX VM)

For that one, users have certain expectations regarding quality. When I say I had it running, this doesn't mean that the rest of Emby server is still working perfectly for every user. This will in fact need some time - but time where people are actually testing already (like in a private group), where there is no pressure like for the beta.

TMCsw 285 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago 19 hours ago, softworkz said: "free beer" Free beer is great but reliability security scalability is the Goal. So why would Microsoft that makes a Windows Server, and then use Linux for there cloud service?
softworkz 5324 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Let's not enter a Windows vs. Linux discussion, we all know how these end There was a very simple reason why the earlier beta was Windows only: A Windows release is very easy to build and I was able to easily provide even 3 updates to the beta group on a single day. Our Linux builds are way more complex (alone due to the wide variety). They have their own build server and there are like two "production lanes": Beta and Stable. Intrroducing a 3rd lane would require an amount of effort that cannot be justified. It would also cause distraction from the actual subject for testing, as we would have to deal with packaging problems as well. For the Linux client, this made sense, because those packages were the ones to be eventually released, but for a TVnext special beta, these would not have any higher-goal purpose. This does not mean that TVnext does not support tuner hardware on Linux. It has a remote tuner feature which allows us to test this in the same way as when Emby Server would be running on the Linux machine itself. During the beta, we even managed to use the tuner from a SAT-TV set-top box with MIPS architecture (running Linux) and a USB tuner plugged into Nvidia Shield. In other words: TVnext does not have any platform limitations, it was (and might again be) merely about the distribution packages we were able to provide during the private beta testing. 5
