stephen_hill 46 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Hi I know that Emby keeps temporary transcoding files in a temporary directory, but what are the rules for clearing these files? And, is it possible to keep these indefinitely? I ask because, to reduce processing resources/power consumption, I would like Emby to reuse transcoding results if possible. As an example, my daughter tends to watch the same things again and again on her tablet. If Emby has already transcoded part or fully a movie, can/does it reuse past transcoding data when being watched again? Or does this warrant a feature request? I can imagine being able to set a cache directory and max size with Emby implementing an LRU cache algorithm. Thanks
Solution Luke 42083 Posted October 6, 2022 Solution Posted October 6, 2022 Hi, they're temporary. The transcoding output is based on each individual playback session, and that's why it can't necessarily be reused the next time you play.
stephen_hill 46 Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 @Luke Thanks for the info. Is there an open feature request for such functionality? (Caching transcoding output for future playback)
