Some TV Episodes Always Return to Continue Watching Section

I have about a dozen tv show episodes that I only partially watched that always show in Continue Watching. I mark them as unwatched then mark them as watched and the next day they are back in continue watching. I have even gone ahead and watched these episodes to their ends but the next day they are back in continue watching. Anyone know some trick to have them no longer show in continue watching?

Can you go over a specific example as this should not be possible unless there is an issue with userdata.

May need to see a corresponding server log for when this happens also.

One show/episode that keeps (re)appearing is Alfred Hitchcock Presents S3 E28. After reading your reply (8:30pm on 7-7) I went ahead and marked the episode as unwatched and then watched and it was no longer showing in continue watching. Just now (10pm 7-8) I came back to Emby and this episode is in Continue Watching again. I have attached my Emby log.

Hi.  Between those two operations, did you watch any episode of that same series?

TBH I can't recall if I did or not.

HI, in the metadata editor does the series have a tvdb id?

Given the show (Alfred Hitchcock) I'm assuming maybe you watch these episodes out of order?  If so, the Continue Watching feature may not function very well for you because it is always going to show you the first unwatched episode after the last one you watched.

Most of the episodes did not have TVDB (or IMDB) IDs so I went ahead and manually entered and saved them and then marked them as unwatched and then watched. Now (about 24 hours later) they have reappeared in Continue Watching.

How about the series?

The episodes that reappear are ones I started watching and didn't particularly like so I went on to the next episode, but, like I have stated no matter what I do they keep reappearing. One important thing I neglected to mention is that the episodes that reappear are partially watched which most likely has something to do with this issue.

The series itself has all IDs from IMDB, TVDB, theMovieDB and Zap2it.

It looks like Emby is no longer writing new "In Progress" data to wherever it is supposed to. I started to watch a movie and stopped it to go watch it in another room and it was missing from In Progress. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot/fix this?

Something doesn't make since if there is a TVDB id as Series level, why is there no id as episode level?  But since Emby tracks userdata by providerid if possible, I would guess the Shows metadata is broken.

Yea let's try to start with a cleaner slate. I would suggest deleting all .dll files from /config/plugins

Then start Emby Server, give it some time and see how things compare.

I shutdown, deleted all the .dll files, played a movie for a few minutes then generated a new log. (attached)

And what happened?

And what happened?

It is still not adding newly partially watched to Continue Watching. I was playing "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" and paused it then clicked on the back arrow in the upper left hand corner and it's not showing resume and when I return to the home screen it's not on Continue Watching either.

Based on the log it looks like you did not delete all of the .dll files as i requested. I would suggest deleting all .dll files from /config/plugins

Then start Emby Server, give it some time and see how things compare.

My apologies. I had a previous Emby docker  (Linuxserver's) that I confused with the Official Emby docker I have installed/use. I will delete the dll's from there and report back. Thanks for your help with this!

That did the trick! As far as my original issue it appears as if that was related to the Trakt plugin. I did some research and found a very helpful site that lets you remove partially watched histories from Trakt: sharkykh.github.io/tppm
Thanks for all the help!
