I'd assume because the owner of the plug-in doesn't submit the updates to the catalog. 

There's been some talk that all / most of the functionality the plug-in provides will eventually be incorporated into emby but i would not expect to see that for a while.

Yes, the version in the catalogue is the last version that was submitted by the original author (in collaboration with me).   I took on the maintanance and upgraded many functions, but I did not want to support it ongoing - thus updates in the thread only.    It's an inevitable result of people moving on with their lives.
