TV Shows - Episode descriptions and titles are all the same

This is a strange one, and I didn't find this issue in the KB, so here it is. All TV shows on my Windows Emby server are using the same episode titles and descriptions as Scream (2015) seasons 1-3.  The strange thing is, I don't even have that show on my server.

This only happens for episodes that there is a corresponding title/description for. So for season 1, only the first 10 episode titles/descriptions are from Scream, and the rest are correct.

So for example, Simpsons S03E06 title is listed as "Endgame" and the description is "GhostFace’s deadly game draws to an end; which of the Deadfast Club survive it long enough to win?" . Simpsons S03E07 title is "Treehouse of Horror II" and description is "The family buys a cursed monkey paw in Morocco, and their three wishes turn out badly. In a Twilight Zone parody, Bart is the fearsome “monster” who can read the townspeople’s thoughts. And Mr. Burns steals Homer’s brain for a giant robot he’s building"  .  This is as expected, since Scream ended after S03E06.

So how do I fix this issue? I haven't seen this before. Running version 4.6.7.0 of the windows server.

That's a strange one. If you Edit Metadata of two random shows, do they show same IDs? Can you post a screenshot? If you Refresh Metadata>Replace all on one show, does it correct itself? If you Identify another, does that correct it? What meta-scrapers you have enabled and in what order in your library settings?

Can you break down your folder structure for a specific example having a issue.

Crazy episode mis-recognition like this is in my experience an indication that you are not following Emby's recommended folder structure and file naming conventions.  Your library folder needs, at the least, a subfolder for each series, and preferably a subsubfolder for each season.  The file name should have the series name and the season/episode identifier in one of the approved formats (I use ssEee).  If you are following this guidance fully, you should have no problems.

Yes, I use the recommended naming convention except I do not place each season in its own folder. Just each series.

The refresh metadata and replace on the entire library fixed the issue though.  It was showing the correct TVDB number at the series level but not at the episode level.  Now it's all fixed.

I have been searching to find if my issue is unique or if someone else is having similar issues. This topic sounds like it may be related. (If not, I'm happy to keep searching or post a separate thread.) I recently moved my data to a new NAS. My TV and Movie collections are rather large, and in order to wrangle them, I leveraged the "Complex Folder Structure" method, but laid it out to each letter and a directory for titles which begin with a number (i.e. 100 or 1883 or 2 Broke Girls, etc. are in \0-9, Ab Fab, Alias are in \A, etc.)

 \Series_Ended
     \0-9
        \1883 (2021)
           \Season 01
              1883 - S01E01 - 1883 [2021-12-19].mkv
     \A
        \Alias (2001)
           \Season 01
              Alias - S01E01 - Truth Be Told [DVD] [2001-09-30].mkv

This was working fine, and then recently I noticed I could not find 1883, and did not even see the folder "0-9" in the folder view, rather the first folder displayed [in the Emby GUI] "A Tale of Fickle Relationships", and in reviewing the metadata, this is in the folder "\\NAS03\media\Series_Ended\0-9" and 137 unwatched episodes. The library, is configured with the parent folder of \\NAS03\media\Series_Ended. I have now found that this behavior is occurring in some other folders, like \\NAS03\media\Series_Ended\E, which has several shows but now appears as some other show [that I don't have in my whole library(s)] with hundreds of episodes. It does only seem to be showing up in TV Show libraries, not Movie libraries. I have also noticed a file "tvshow.nfo" appearing in the root of these organizational folders, and even if I delete it; lock the metadata, etc, it keeps reappearing. I attempted to recreate this by moving the shows around in the library and attached logs, if that will help. (Again, not trying to hijack, and if I should post a new issue or keep digging, please advise.) The behavior seems to not exist if the show is in the root folder in the library. (If I move 1883 to the root [\media\Series_Ended\1883 (2021) ] then the show gets picked up by and displayed correctly in the GUI.

Yes others have reported issued with nested/complex folder structure in TV Show libraries, but I have yet to reproduce a issue.

Really the only thing to do is remove the content of /0-9 folder and slowly readd the media to fine out what server breaks the folder as content in the folder is causing it to become a Series instead of a folder.  You will have to do some nfo file cleanup first as bad nfos will be made in this wrong folder level identification.

I just had this issue recently as well. I used to have all my media inside an E:\Videos\Emby folder in subfolders for TV, Movies, etc. I recently noticed that nothing was showing up in those subfolders, so I just moved each of the folders to the root of the drive, and it fixed it.  Maybe a recent server update caused it? I used to have no problem having it all under that structure.

Thanks, yall. I did consider adding each of the sub-folders as their own unique folder in the Emby Library, thereby making each its own unique root directory, but that would be ridiculous to the 28th... I'll move these shows in the trouble directories out and let everything settle, then re-attempt in the future. (@Happy2Play: Is there another thread where this issue is consolidated to?)

Why would it be ridiculous? I have them setup exactly like that for years, it took 10 minutes and no more worrying which show will break complex folder structure. Simple does it.

@GrimmReaper: There was some snark in my 'inside voice' when I penned that: "... to the 28th". I agree, that is an elegant, simple and reliable solution. In particular from the user/'Household Emby admin' perspective. I guess my observations were referring more to the fact that there may be something awry with the way the application reads and interprets those "Complex" sub/parent folders, and may be a larger issue. Thanks, for the view of the Library structure. I feel that will help some others who are looking for guidance on this topic.
