Stop Emby transcoding when video has embedded subtitles

Hello

I have this movie with

video: AVC High@L4.1

2 audios: DTS and AC-3

5 text streams: 4PGS and 1 UTF

Now, from an external hard disk directly plugged in into the TV, this movie can be played without problems except it doesn't show the subtitles, which is fine, I don't need them (I use external srt).

However, when I try to play it with Emby, it does transcoding. It only seems to be doing that so it can burn in the subtitles into the picture.

I looked through the options and I found

Quote

Allow subtitle extraction on the fly

Embedded subtitles can be extracted from videos and delivered to Emby apps in plain text in order to help prevent video transcoding. On some systems this can take a long time and cause video playback to stall during the extraction process. Disable this to have embedded subtitles burned in with video transcoding when they are not natively supported by the client device.

From this I understand that it should be checked so that it doesn't transcode to burn in. But, checked, it still does the transcoding.
How do I stop this transcoding?
Thank you

Hi there, what emby app are you playing with? Did you explore the stats feature in the video player to learn why it is transcoding?

I use emby server on my Windows PC and then when I turn on the TV, emby server shows up in sources/input and I play it from there. It uses the built in TV so I'm not sure if I can check stats of the video player you are mentioning.

Are you playing from the TV or from Emby?

I'm playing it from the TV. Emby server is just running in the background of my Windows PC.

Is this DLNA or the actual Emby LG TV app?

But server and ffmpeg logs would provide this information.

I'm guessing it's DLNA. It's not an Emby LG TV app for sure, because I open it from sources, the same place where input USBs are, HDMI cables etc.

Can you please tell me how do I obtain the logs?

It is provided in the second post.

But this might be a DLNA profile issue, but logs will tell us more.

Enter /programdata/logs folder.

My guess would be the profile.

  <SubtitleProfiles>
    <SubtitleProfile format="srt" method="Embed" />
    <SubtitleProfile format="srt" method="External" />
  </SubtitleProfiles>

@Lukedo you know if embedded should be "subrip" not srt?

@Luke

If it's that, is there a way to tell Emby not to transcode because I don't care about the embedded PGS or whatever subtitles?

From a psgsub standpoint transcoding is normal as they are not supported.

What default user is DLNA using? Settings-DLNA, Default user:

What is your Users Subtitle setting?  Settings-Subtitles

It's empty, if I click on the arrow I get the local account name of my Windows PC.

This was 'Default' and I changed it to 'No subtitles' and now no transcoding happens and the subtitles are shown from the external .srt file.

Thanks a lot for your help :)
